iboats' one-time SS prop sale - Huge Savings!

Very rarely does iboats ever post sales on these boards. I don't even remember the last time we did. This one is worth noting. One of our suppliers has some high-quality stainless steel props (with free $25 case) that they are desperately trying to blow out because of lack of space. The prices are literally 40% - 50% off regular price. If you are even thinking of getting a prop (even for a backup to your current one) you need to check this sale out! Some prop sizes only have a few props left in inventory. You snooze even for a few days and you'll lose. :) I thought I would give you fellow board members a first chance.

To take a look at the prop deal you can brag about to your friends, check out the Prop Specials Page. Make sure you use the prop finder tool if you don't know which one is right for you.

Hi all,

I had one of those Attwood Balistic props and let me tell you, it was the worst prop I ever had. It consistantly cavitated. Could not open the throttle beyond half way because it cavitated. I put my old beat-up aluminum prop back on and had no further problems. This was on a 135hp Merc O/B 14.25 X 19.

I still have the case though, great for my spare. Just my observation with this product.

You guys might not be aware of this but before you dog too much on the Attwood prop you might be interested to know that these props are the same as Michigan Wheel's Ballistic. Michigan Wheel - the biggest independent propeller manufacturer - thought the Ballistic propeller was so good that they bought the tooling and technology from the original manufacturer Attwood, and you'll see them on boats everywhere.

As for the cavitation problem, some boat/engine combinations do need the greater blade area of a more traditional aluminum or SS propeller to avoid possible ventilation problems.

At least you guys aren't arguing that they aren't priced great.

just my thought-
so many times i see others post things for sale and some get chastized for listing them in this area and not in the classified.
so by posting this you have opened that door and should not move or lock out any other for sale items.
its not right to preach but not to practice no matter what the situation is.
im not trying to tee anyone off but whats right is right.

While you might be right 2K, he owns this board and he could shut it down anytime he wants, but he provides it to us free of charge even though this board provides next to no sales. So I wouldnt complain to much. Just my opinion though. BTW he does not close topics, that is JB and moderator1.

Let me make sure I'm hearing this right. Are you saying that iboats should have to advertise their products in their own classified section and are exercising a double standard in posting an item on sale on their own forums??? and if they sell here then I should be able to sell here also?In their store? And they'll keep paying the bills? What a great deal.Admin5 and iboats are the only ones that reserve the right to sell here or on any other forum or place on this site of their choosing. That's what they're in business for.I don't need a Ballistic prop but surely there is someone that is pleased with its performance on their rig.The price is definately right as far as new stainless props go.

2K Boat,
I was amazed to see your comment! I don't even know how to respond. . . . I am still speechless. Its now been five minutes and I still don't know whether to vent or explain the fact of what iboats.com is. :(

Can some of you other regulars help explain to 2K Boat how good of a gig you guys have here as well as all the other stuff that iboats is?

I am still trying to think of an analogy for 2K's complaint. How about someone.... I am still too amazed at the complaint to finish. If so many people (that regularly come to this board) have such little respect or even a pinch of gratitude for the company that runs it, worries about it, manages it, pays for huge servers to run it, etc., etc. -don't forget the great moderators. I better stop and take a break. I feel like turning the boards off for a week right now. With the loyalties expressed by so many people I am not sure it would be missed. Everyone would just move on to the next one. :(

I like this board very much, it is full of knowledge. This is the only BB that I visit, it has helped me on several different projuects. I would hate to see it go. I am very greatful that this board is here. Please dont shut us down, and I think that I can speak for most of us on that. I appreciate that iBoats does this for us, even though they dont have to, if you pull this board people like me wont have anywhere else to go. Dont let one comment get to you Admin, there are too many here that love what you do for us.

I am always surprised that Admin5 doesn't take the
opportunity to advertise specials more often.
think there's been 3 items in the last year offered?
he not only has the right, but also the responsiblilty
to sell the very products that fund this board.
y'all are just lucky it ain't me, cuz I would
sure do a lot more advertising here.
DON'T LOOK A GIFT HORSE IN THE MOUTH!
my .02
M.Y.

Re: iboats' one-time SS prop sale - Huge Savings!

iboats is the best boating board around - period. They are a private company who pay all the costs of setting up, hosting, running, maintaining and managing this board (with generous help from volunteers like JB).

So...I think they have the right to advertise however much they want, anywhere they want on this site. In my opinion they show admirable restraint - and that restraint of course adds to the quality of the board.

I don't know any details about iboats' sales and where they come from, but I only hope that they get enough value from the board to make it worth their while to keep it going. Or maybe they should start charging us for membership ??

Wait a minute now, you're saying the owner of the site can't advertise on his own site? Would you prefer being annoyed by constant pop-ups? I know it's winter time, but I think you may not be getting enough sun on your noggin for another reason. No I don't wanna start a war, but think about your position for a minute.

BTW: I thought the price on those props was great and I ordered one immediately. Even if it doesn't give me better performance at that price it's a fine spare, or I'm sure I can find someone else who'll pay me at least that for it.

Just my .02

Re: iboats' one-time SS prop sale - Huge Savings!

WOW!!

I think I have an analogy.

This is the iboats store. There is a room where we can place advertizements for a fee.

There is a large and diverse retail area where we can get excellent prices on everything from new engines to items to decorate our dens with.

There is this other room, provided to us, boaters, to gather and exchange ideas, ask questions and get better answers than available anywhere else in the universe. This room is free to us. :) We are asked to do nothing here that competes with our host's business. We are also asked to behave like gentlemen. A hell of a deal, guys.

Very rarely, our host offers us extraordinary opportunities to save a lot of money on special sales by posting notice in this room. The last I remember was the super deals on warrantied SuziRude DF70 engines coming off lease at LESS THAN HALF of the new price! Several of my friends bought them to put on their Montauks and are thrilled with the value they got. :D

Now think about this. If you buy a prop that is unsuited to your engine/boat and rigging and it performs poorly is it the prop's fault? Do you have license to bash the prop in the vendor's store?

Finally, I cannot stretch my fertile imagination far enough to come up with a rationale by which iboats shouldn't notify us of special sales or even routine advertizement on this board.

I am embarrassed for the membership by several of the posts in this thread.

I humbly ask Admin5 and BV to overlook them as representing the tiniest minority of member sentiment.

Thank you, iboats, for this wonderful forum and for giving us first shot at some great deals.

Sure 2K Boat was out of line....but maybe he has reason. I looked up his last few posts; according to him: his wife stays in bed @ Christmas (for the last 3 years!); he owns a Force engine; bought a used OB last year and got screwed by the sellor (and got a lot of good advice about fixing it on this site "learning something new, with the help of good people", posted 12/02); drives Bayliners....jeez, guys, he's miserable! ;)
Hey, Iboats can post all the sales they want. Thanks for the site, Adm 5!

Well said JB & OB.

Admin5/iboats, thanks for making this board possible. I'm sure 99% of participants appreciate what you do for us. Please don't let the minority tarnish the respect and gratitude that the majority have for this website.

Brew

Re: iboats' one-time SS prop sale - Huge Savings!

i didnot get personal, so there is no reason to insult me <captm and others>
i under stand this is "iboats forum" and that they can do what they want.
i understand its free, and this is a great site.
i just dont think its right for "iboats" to tell others they have to sell things in the classified because thats what it is there for and lock them out. but yet turn around and do the same.
thats like the pres. saying you have to pay taxes but i dont.
i see alot of empty space at the top of this page that could be used.
-
i stand to be corrected and i have been.
-
BUT PERSONAL POT SHOTS AND INSULTS ARE UNCALLED FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: iboats' one-time SS prop sale - Huge Savings!

2K, I agree that personal pot shots are out of line, just as taking pot shots at iboats is out of line.

JB & OB illustrated the situation very well. Would you expect to be able to walk into your local marine shop and expect to have the same rights as the owner of the shop to sell your marine equipment to customers in that shop ? No way. iboats have more rights on this site than you and I do - because they own it and it's their business, clear and simple.
