2 days off work paid, but now paying the price playing catchup...

Thursday morning the rain started to freeze and gave a good 2-4" of ice-sleet, and then topped with a couple inches of snow.

90 Miles west in Columbia, 15" of snow fell (my neice goes to college there, first time classes have been caceled because of weather in 15 years.

450,000 people were without power again in St. Louis (not me) I'm thinking Ameren needs to re-thing their tree cutting policy.... out in my neck of the woods, my power company does 100% clear cutting of any trees under/near a power line... and outages are few and far between.

Some regional manager probably decided he was going to show some quarterly or year end savings, by not trimming the trees. Now, all have to pay for his nice looking year end report (and bonus).

They do the same thing where I work.

We live in Farmington, I am in Oregon for the last week and a half. My wife was out for a few days and bought a generator to keep the sump empty. Farmington manages their own power so they did OK. Still a lot of Ameren customers without.

Nasty stuff that ice!

Had to use the generator for 3 days because the power was out here in St. Louis. Picked it up during the storms of July when it was out then for 4 days. Some pics of my neighborhood and one of Lake of the Ozarks docks that collapsed under the ice and 14 inches of snow. Many here on the Mississippi also collapsed...

Re: Ice in St. Louis

Same thing happened to my neck of the wood a couple years ago. I was without power for a week. I had just bought a new house, different part of town . I got off work and went to the old place because I haven't moved yet, no power. Went to the new place, no power. I told myself, ain't this a biotch? I have two houses and I can't stays in either one of them. I can definetely relates to the pic of the tree lined road cover in ice. I have to admit, it does look pretty cool. The first night after the ice came was hard to sleep from the sound of crashing tree branches. The power company had to get help from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Tenn, and lineman came as far as W. Virginia and N. Carolina. They worked round the clock along with tree removal people. I can't even imagine how much money was spend on labor cost. Starting this summer, they're going around and cut down/trim whatever is a threat to the power line.

It will never happen again because of global warming. Missouri will become like Hawaii.

Looks like Ameren is going to get a slap on the wrist this time at least. Not that it will really do anything to prevent this kind of stuff in the future.
