Looking to buy a 1993 Seaswirl Spyder 208 w/ OMC 5.8L EFI engine and am looking for feedback on the type of outdrive (any chance it's a Volvo?), reliability/parts availability, and any other feedback on the boat. Really low hours (176), he's asking a bit much I think ($7,500), any thoughts there?

Been looking around the forums for years, glad to finally have to post something here. Thanks for the feedback!

Re: ID/Feedback On OMC Outdrive

Welcome aboard -

I can't tell you too much about the brand, but at almost 20 years old worry more about condition. The drive is an OMC engine, looks to be a COBRA outdrive (OMC). Most people will suggest away from the OMC unless you are a planning on being your own mechanic. They've been out of business for quite a while and parts are becoming harder to find.

Price is too high (IMHO) even if it's in excellent condition.

Little to no tech support for the Ford Fuel Injection. Parts are next to impossible to find and mostly NLA. I would strongly avoid Ford fuel injected engines.
Hard to tell by looking at that single drive photo, but if that is the cone clutch King Cobra, less parts are available for it than the Ford engine. If that is the drive, run, do not walk away from that boat.

OMC has also been out of business since 1998.
