I'd like to say it's my first SHT... But I'd be lying....

So, my family and my buddy and his wife are camping together this weekend... We fished last night, wasn't horrendous, went this a.m., and about the same. Had a blast, even if we didn't catch much.

Came back to the camper this a.m. - and another friend's sister texted and said they had a friend (I know -- right?) that was stranded on the lake and needed help. We weren't doing anything pressing, so, we decided to go put my buddies boat in the water to run across the lake and help them out.

My buddy's boat rope... can't be more than 10' long. The ramp is SWAMPED with people... so he backed down to the water, I unhooked the boat, and pushed it off... and tried to jump out of the way so the next guy could back into the drink... as I stepped up to the dock... the short rope caught me... and I landed on the dock like a beached whale... I jumped up to do a little damage control and see how many saw it happen... and judging by the sneers and laughter... most of them saw it, and many more heard it (aluminum dock... fat dude falling on it... make big noise.) As a only a man would... "I'm okay!"... after everyone's wondering if the moron that made a dent in an aluminum dock is alright.

I'd like to say the only thing I hurt was my pride... but I'd be lying... big 'ol black and blue knot on my left leg kinda tells the story.

Moral of the story is, while it's nice to hurry your stride to get out of the way and make life easier for someone else... it's not imperative that it all happens in 30 seconds.

We made it across the lake, tied off (sort of... I hung on to the rope through a cleat... in case something happened that we needed to break away quickly.) to the stranded boater, and made it back. I never fail to have a story when I go out it seems.

"I'm OK" Thats priceless "Newbie". :) All those people, and nobody caught a video for YouTube? Glad you're alright. Helped out a fellow boater in distress as well. First class man. Thanks for sharing.

Felt like an idiot for sure -- no alcohol, so no excuse.

I always figure... if you can't laugh at yourself, you probably shouldn't laugh at anyone else either. Funnier yet, there's only a few of us humble enough to share when stuff does go wrong...

True words there my Friend!!

I will give you the short version of one of my Whoopsies...

Wife is pulling into the dock to pick me up after I dropped the truck and trailer off, her first time driving our new to us boat with a injected 454 and a bravo III as compared to our former carbed 350 and Alpha.

so typically she will just simply nose in and I jump from the Dock onto the bow and she reverses and off we go, Yeah you know where this is going already don't you, so she gives the same amount of reverse as she did with the old boat as I am in airborne but our new boat has instant reactions to her her input and the bow catches my forward foot in FULL reverse and I go butt end over tea kettle into the drink in front of 30 or so "Observers", once I came up from the water I was applauded and even had several 8's or 9's Pretty sure some drunk lady gave me a 10!

Sometimes all you can do is Wave and thank you gracefully and get your butt out of there quickly so as to limit the embarrassment but ultimately you lived and have a good story for the campfire.

Glad your ok Bud, you certainly have the right attitude!!

My latest sht involved a rather rough ramp and a series of mistakes on my part. As I was prepairing to launch I let a little slack out of the bow strap and accidently left the winch unlocked. (my first mistake) As I was backing down the ramp my trailer went a little crooked,(mistake 2) so I put my truck in drive to straighten it out. As I hit the throttle the trailer hit a bump on the ramp the winch came unwound and my stern hit the pavement. Lucky for me its a light boat and all I had to do was winch it back on to the trailer and hang my head in shame. Only 3 people saw the show I put on, good thing it was a slow night at the ramp.
