Re: Ideas for winter storage outside in the snow.

Thanks for the replies. I see. I was trying to mimic the Navigloo system where they place the supports on the seat. I was just worried about the engine cover. I already have the wood cut so I might as well just see how it stands first. I will get a piece of wood as a base though so it won't scratch. Any other suggestions guys?

I place any framing on the seats or engine cover my vertical supports go to the boat floor.

I went to Costco and for $189.00 you can get a house for your boat as long as it is not longer then about 21 feet. It is a tent structure but works awesome at keeping the boat bone dry all winter. I had to go to Harbor Freight and pick up a 15'X20' tarp to hang from the ceiling so any condensation from the roof just runs down to the sides of the tent. Total investment, around 200 bucks, this is my second one as the first one started failing at some of the seams after 5 years. So the way I figure it, 40 bucks a year for dry storage. And I can work on the boat anytime in the nice dry tent. The other thing I did was go to Home Depot and get 15' of 2" PVC drain pipe and cut it into 8 pieces and raised the whole tent by 2 feet by extending the legs. In the winter I drop it down but in the summer it is raised so I can keep my tower up. In the winter when it is low it is easy to brush the snow off of it.

Well,

I assembled the spine of my frame yesterday and it looks and feels AWESOME and strong. I just have a question, why do I need the ribs of I will tie the tarp tightly to the trailer? what purpose would they serve?

Thanks.

Spine on mine is simple and one man can do it with no problems. My boat with swim platform is almost 30 feet so a single wooden spine is heavy. I have 5 2x4 legs that have a small grove in the top. The legs have a flat bottom and have i hooks that small pieces of close line going to rails , cleats ext to keep them secure. I tie a line onto the anker Davot pulling it tight over the top of the legs and tie a loop in the end. I use a rachet strap to crank it tight. Hang the tarp over it. I gallon jugs full of sand a couple lines and your done. New England weather can give it a heck of a shot and you don't need to worry.

Billboards.....you guys that have used them....anything I should look for as I start looking at ebay? These are better than the cheap tarps at Menards? Are they really heavy?

I just bought my used billboard a few months ago. I got the 12x24 dealy from eBay for just under $50 with shipping.

My boat is a 18 foot, so this size was plenty big, although they do have bigger.

I think the blue tarps are ~6 mill, the grey/brown tarps are 11 mill...the used billboard is 22 mill. They're beasts!

Mine came with a bank logo on one side and was black on the other...I put the black side out so my neighbors and I don't have to look at the logo.

I'm hoping it lasts for years to come. Man is it heavy, though! ;)

Re: Ideas for winter storage outside in the snow.

So this morning it was pouring and I went and stood under the billboard with the boat for a moment. I could see little pin spots of light. Not good.

I looked around and water was indeed making it through the tarp in these little pin holes.

I called the company who I got it from on eBay...the guy was super apologetic, said they should be inspected and that shouldn't happen and he's sending a new one out today.

Nice guys...definitely recommend. Sky Group Closeouts and Wholesalers.
