Re: Identification needed

E55RWLCRD is a 1984 55hp Evinrude. Nothing on this engine will interchange with a 1969 55hp model.

Re: Identification needed

Thanks Joe.

I was thinking that if it fits, maybe I could use it as a fix as my 1969 55 hp hydro-electric is giving me grief.

Maybe you can help.

I checked ohm reading and wiring voltage and all was fine.

I pulled the lower unit to check it out.

The two rods (plungers) that go through the solenoids when replaced are to cover off the top of the solenoids. They were about 1/8 inch lower and recessed into the solenoids.

I was thinking that this is the problem. The reason that I can figure is that it required more oil pressure (hense the higher revs) to pop it into gear.

Ok. So I re-assembled it & nada.

I'm getting the proper power to the solenoid wires. The prop turns by hand when the engine is off (with plugs disconnected of course!). I get no "chunk/click" of it going into gear (either gear) at low idle (from Neutral). The only way for it to go into gear is at a high rev.

This is all done on hose.

Does the unit need to be in water for the resistance?

Could it be the dog or pump?

I also heard of a plunger or valve that comes off (Or out of a plastic sleeve), which hampers the shifting. Is it located in the pump? What does it look like? Is there a way to reset it without pulling the pump out?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions, but I see by your siggy that you have 30+ years with OMC. I always look for the experts, and I have less than 30 days with OMC...

Thanks for your help!
