While cleaning my barn I found the first outboard I bought and wasn?t a hand me down. It is a Sears from the early or middle 1960?s. I can not find a Sears Model number on it. There is a tag on the block that has the following on it;

T 634 10
5154021 or 515404

It is an air-cooled 3.5 hp with the Sears name on both sides and the letters SL on the front.

It still turns over by the rope and I also have the gas tank (2 ? gallon round) and connecting hose. I am planning on getting it running and putting it on a 12? tinny Meyers I have for old time sake.

Any help with mfg, year, or model will be appreciated.

Thanks

The prefix of the model number will tell the brand. 3.5 from the 60s could be Clinton,
65,66,67,68, Prefix 582,Eska 70,71,72,may be 217,prefix.

That makes sense since that t 634 10 number is on a metal tag on the powerhead. Hopefully a fresh tank of gas and a new plug will be all it takes since it hasn't been run in about 40 years:D

The 3 1/2 horse Sears I have that uses the same Tecumseh 634-10 engine is Sears model # 217-59501 and is a '67 year model.

The V-51 is radially finned all the way to the spark plug boss and---unlike all other Tecumsehs used by Eska---a 'one piece' block with both cylinder and head cast as a single unit, i.e.: no cylinder head gasket to fail. It was variously rathed between 3 & 4 1/2 hp depending on application.

All from memory so don't be surprised if I missed on a few points.;)

Re: Identify an old Sears 3.5

Thanks to all for the good replies. Now I know what it is I can get at it and make it run again. It was actually a couple of years newer than I thought. Time has a way of playing tricks on the mind.

Once I get it on my old tinny along with my Shakespeare Wondertrol electric which still works fine I will have a nice vintage fishing combo. Only thing left to do is find a pair of bell bottom jeans and let what hair I have left grow down to my shoulders and I will have successfully passed back through the time tunnel:)

V-51, I thought so. they show up as "none" on the short block list at brix enterprise model lookups.

Would still be nice if you could take a pic or 2 especially of the carb

The reason mrcrabs said that is that he knows I've been looking for a carb for mine for @ a year with no luck. Don't even know what it's supposed to look like since it arrived at my door without one! So far all I've been able to dig up is that it could have had either a 'pumper' or a float type on it.
Every thing I've tried to date interferes with the bracket to which the timing/fuel lever is attached.
So if ANYONE has a pic of the carb or a rebuildable carb from a Sears 217-59501 I would be exceptionally grateful!!!! Tom

As soon as I clean the dust off I will take several pictures of the carb and post them on this thread.

I'll await the pics with bated breath. May bait it with a little Old Crow.;)

Was up at the barn today on my other property today and took these. If there is a special view you need let me know. Didn't realize my disc was almost full so didn't get a lot of different angles.
