first off, hello all

dug up this old outboard and its missing the gas tank, the only writing i can find on it is "lauson" on the bowl of the carburetor. It has foward neutral and reverse, any info u know about this motor would be greatly appreciated.

Re: identify this outboard

At first glance, it looks like a Clinton powerhead. But the rest of it, I don't know what the heck it is.

well you can see in the pic, a sticker has peeled off where it mounts to the boat. i bet that had my valued info on it.

research on lauson is giving me 1950's 1960's range, i really dont think this motor is that old. but, i dont have a clue.

Lauson had outboards but was bought out by tecumseh. I think they sold carbs under the lauson name. The engine looks like a tecumseh so I'd say it is am eska.

Re: identify this outboard

Lauson made air cooled 4 stroke outboards from about 1940 to about 56.
Some did have fnr and early versions shift was between powerhead and the drive shaft.Originally a 2.5 it became a 3 in 1948 with a recoil starter. And a twin was introduced with 6 hp. Around 56 Tecumseh bought them out and stopped producing the outboards. If it is a 4 stroke it is almost surely a Lauson.Yours may be an earlier model as it doesn't appear to have cooling fins on the upper leg.
If its a 2 stroke its not a Lauson. The belly pan does not resemble a Clinton or Eska
which were quite similar to one another.
