14 years of working on cars. Not a problem with any seals using Vaseline.
If you search around you find many people use Vaseline. Transgel usually comes in a tub. Most would only use it once.

30+ years working on all types of machinery.
I've had a couple of disasters from using vaseline on rubber seals, ....never again. If it is the "right" rubber compound you will be OK, but with all the specialty lubes available just to avoid this, why take the chance?

A slide hammer would be a good idea for removing the pump some are on real good...be very carefull when replacing the pump with its NEW seal between case and pump{big Oring} and something to compress the clutches to remove snap ring....blow all parts and offifes....soak cluches .seals in TRANNIE fuild.....I would dismantle valve body and clean and blow it all pay close attention to check ball locatations...maybe a light shift kit also as long as you have a external cooler or you will blow the new pump seal

Update:
With the fast style of life I have now I have not time to work on this transmission so I broke down and paid $550 in a shop to fix the problem. The vehicle is running now. He told me he set up the pressure high so I will feel a little tug but it is a big tug. It almost feels like then I got that transmission code that indicated slips. I will call the shop tomorrow and see how they did that and will probably ask them to fix it. But in all, it is working....
