Identifying late 80's Evinrude model #

I am looking at a late 80's Evinrude 70hp but it is missing the serial and model number plate. It there any other way to find the model number? I have looked everywhere and can't find one. The motor is blueish gray with a gold VRO label. I am really looking for the year. It looks like it may have been rebuilt. The carbs have little metal tags attached on the right side that seem to have identifying numbers on them.

Any help would be appreciated.

On my 79 Johnson it has the model # on the frost plugs might get lucky

If the freeze plug is also missing, beware. The motor is probably stolen. My father-in-law got arrested once for possessing stolen property. He got a "good deal" on it. He didn't steal it, he just possessed it.
