Roller trailer.

Safety chain removed prior to launch.:facepalm:

Yup, I " launched" my boar 25' shy of the water. Came off trailer, hit concrete and slid for a few feet. A sickening site in my rearview mirror.

Anyways - no one hurt, did not touch engine ( maybe another pro in the I/O vs OB threads? ). no hull cracks that I see. Scratched the keel, especially at the stern. I can include pictures but I still get ill looking t it. I am thinking maybe fiberglass repair. At least epoxy or gelling coat. When I wipe my hand on it it comes away chalky from the fiberglass.any ideas?

You would be better off taking to a body shop[,basically the same as a Vette], or DYI,The damage should be cleaned out by sanding with a disc sander. Then glassed over with a couple layers. After that, marine bondo and then finished with a blended in paint job.A small shop would probably do it for 2 maybe three hundred depending on severity.I would not worry about gel vs paint on the bottom of a boat which in a lot of cases gets painted anyway.Just putting bondo over is a band aid patch at best.

ABSOLUTLY NOT.......the repair you just suggested is for cars....cars are not boats.....does your car live every day in a hurricane???,.....your boat does.

as a professional boat repairer.....i see peoples boats all the time that have taken it to body shops....the owners come to me crying because they just paid to fix it and the repair has failed.

to fix a boat.....go to a boat shop.
to fix a car...go to a car body shop.

DO NOT CONFUSE THE TWO.

just looking at your repair schedule....i can tell you that repair WILL FAIL with in two years, if not sooner.

btw....what is marine bondo?.....and why should the owner use it? why paint when gellcoat is 10x stronger than paint?

Thanks, I will post/pm pictures.

As for no chain: 100% operator error. The winch and safety chain. Took them off one at a time. Should have reattached untangled. I real stupid mistake. Not my first. Not my last. But the last time I will make this particular one.

At least the plug was in .

Re: "At least the plug was in ."

You don't need the plug when you launch 25' safely away from any deep water.

Sorry that was mean just couldn't help it. Hope it all works out.

I love it.

Perfect.

The more people I share this story with, the more people come clean and share amazing stories of stupidity as well. Nice of you to herd us all together! ;<)

Sailing clubs sometimes have pennants. Little flags you fly to show you are part if the in group. Maybe we should have a face palm  pennant to proudly display..
