I Have a 1993 Johnson outboard that was stored about 2 years.I had some dificulty starting it up at first, But it runs great at any speed now.My only problem is the idle is to low with the 1/4" gap in the throtle linkage.I have the linkage set to apply some throtle to the engine to keep my rpm at about 1600.It is about 1100 rpm otherwise but stalls at that setting. If anyone can tell me the proper idle adjustment tricks please help.Thank you

Ahoy, Turtle.

You may have gummed idle jets in one or two carbs. I would pull them and carefully confirm that all jets are 100% open.

Good luck. :)

Thanks JB... I'll give that a try and see what happens.

JB, I cleaned out the jets as best as I could.I also saw a cross drilled hole in the carb body and ran a wire into it also. My engine runs at 1000 rpm at idle but will stall after warm up. My carb idle screws are set at 1 1/2" on top 2 1/2" center and 3 1/2" bottom to get the engin to run smooth. I do not know if this setting is close to right but it works. My spark plugs are showing some carbin build up after one day of running new ones.I think I may need to have the carbs boiled out but I hope not since the engine runs perfect at any speed.I might not have cleaned the jets properly? What do you think. Thanks; sea turtle

Did you blow out the Passages with compressed air? Also, did you set the float level of each Carb.? Number of turns on the screws should be close to each other in an ideal situation. Initial setting for a 60 HP is 2 1/2 Turns out. I would also suggest if you take then off again, get rebuild kits for all of them, as needle seats and other internal parts can become deformed after sitting for a while. They are only about $15.00 Per carb. for the kits. Well worth it! I have a 91' 70 Hp, which is basically the same Motor, so I do have some knowledge of yours. If you need further help, let us know! But I bet if you re-clean the Carbs. and blow out the passages, then install rebuild kit, it will run much better! Good Luck,

EDIT: Also, what do you mean in your first post that you advanced your linkage to acheive a higher idle? Do you mean you adjusted the Idle screw or the actual linkage to attain a higher idle? You may need to syncronize your linkage, also. Please respond before you tear it down again!
