Hi guys,
what a wast of long weekend here in Canada, I'm land bound because of the freak weather we've been having
My question.Where do I find the idle screw on this mag 454 mpi engine? The engine idles at 1000 rpm which I think is a bit to high.
What's the correct idle speed for this engine.
thanks

Re: idle adjustment

There isn't one. You can't adjust the idle on that motor. It's supposed to do it mechanically with an Idle Air Control valve. It could be stuck or disconnected. If you boat in saltwater, my bet is on "stuck". Salt air can corrode the aluminum around it. I don't have the book handy, but I believe 750ish in gear.

Re: idle adjustment

Man o War, I havent been on for quite some time. I admit, I just got away from my boat and didnt put in the effort to come to the board. It seems from the Photo you got a new boat, or at least a new engine. What ever happened to all your old oil/gas problems??

Re: idle adjustment

Disconnect your throttle cable and see if it will idle down. It should idle around 650.

Re: idle adjustment

The throttle cam should be bottomed out when at idle.

Man-of-war... the bow of that boat looks pretty low in the picture, is the bilge draining properly when it's raining?

Re: idle adjustment

Hi KRS,
I do have a problem with elevating the bow on my driveway. I used a wooden box 1' high plus the winch leg on top the box which takes it up to an angle to drain off the back. The only problem is if my kids, or any of the kids on the street that like to play hockey, kick the wheel chucks.....I DONT WANT TO THINK THAT FAR.
I rolled 2 coats of RV canvas sealant on the grey cover. The water does puddle and penetrates the grey cover and through the purple cover. I'll have to use some sealant on the purple cover as well.

Re: idle adjustment

I think you need to buy a new house...one where the driveway slopes the "correct" way for that boat :)

-JMW
