Re: Idle at 600 rpms
Most often you hear of people dragging a drift sock behind their boat while drifting, but that can get in the way when trolling. The sock is a big fabric bag that you drag thru the water like a parachute, to slow you down.

Drift Sock

They come in sizes ranging from 19" to 50".

One of the TV fishing shows showed how to rig one up under your boat. You need 2 cleats or similar anchor points near the bow of your boat, and a rope that will reach between the two.

You attach one end of the rope to your boat. attach the drift sock to the center of the rope, drop the sock in the water and reach the rope around the bow to attach the other end. Now your sock is under the boat, and out of the way for fighting fish. The sock will stay out of the way even if the boat turns around.

You can make the rope long enough so you can pull the sock up over the bow without unhooking the rope. Just make sure that the sock cannot reach the motor/prop.

Remember to pull the sock in before going full throttle!!
