I have an intermittent problem with my 1990 50hp Evinrude. Sometimes when I'm moving at very slow speed, just above idle, it will sputter and die. After that it seems as though the engine is immediately flooded (well it is flooded based on the gas dripping from under the bonnet). It typically happens when I'm easing in either at the dock or up to anchor. If I let it sit a bit it will start fine and may not act up again for weeks.

The only thing I notice is sometimes I heard a loud click from the engine after I've tried unsucessfully to crank it. It has an electic choke and I'm wondering if it's that that is causing my problem.

Any ideas?

Also, can someone recommend a good manual for this engine. I'm particularly looking for one with a decent troubleshooting section.

Thanks!
