I have a 2000 25hp 4 stroke Mercury Bigfoot that was recently purchased with the boat. It sat for 3-4 years without any use, but otherwise was maintained very well and shows no signs of abuse. After sitting overnight/long periods of time I can fire it right up every single time with out any hesitation what so ever. The problem comes once it has ran for a bit and warmed up. It will run great at full throttle, very smooth, no lag or anything even bringing it down to half throttle or so. The outboard will run at idle speed for a few minutes before bogging down/sounding like it will die..... can be corrected by increasing the throttle briefly but will continue to do the same and ultimately will die if I let it. The other thing is once it has ran, it is a bear to get started and will only do so on high idle, then it revs up almost uncontrollably dying/bogging down in between. Now what I have do is initially cleaned the jets because they were clogged from being stored (now has brand new ones), new plugs, and the fuel enricher appears to function as far as I can tell and the float in the carb appears to be functional. I have only worked on two strokes, so beyond that I am at a total loss. I could really use some advice/direction on things I should be checking out. Right now is when I wanted to have this going and getting it into any marine mechanic around here would be nearly impossible, and beyond that from my experience they have been fairly incompetent and overpriced. Thank you for any help and or advice.
