idle rod adjustment--15hp two stroke

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The choke knob on my older 15hp 2 stroke has zero effect on idle speed when turned full range. The adjustment screw for taking up slack between the idle rod and the trigger underneath the flywheel is bottomed out with no more adjustment. Is the trigger (plastic part underneath flywheel) a wear item that needs periodic replacment? Its hard for me to get a good look at without removing the flywheel. The idle rod linkage at the carburetor end has some visible wear, but doesn't appear to me to be significant. My opinion might be different if I were comparing a new one side by side. Might that be my problem?

Any ideas or pearls of wisdom?

sounds like you fast idle wire is installed incorrectly, make sure the wire end is pointed UP at the trigger. if it is pointed down, this issue will occur. flywheel trigger shouldnt need to be replaced unless resistance checks have failed or that tab that holds the wire is broken.

I'd love it if someone could post a picture of the way that rod is supposed to be hooked in the trigger under the flywheel. I was taking the carb off and it dropped out before I had a chance to examine it, I have looked everywhere including the service manual and cannot find an illustration of how it's supposed to hook up. I *think* i have it in right, but...
