What should the idle rpm be on a 1974 Johnson 70 hp? Mine seems to be quite high in neutral then put it in gear and it dies, took the carbs off and rebuilt them, checked the reeds they are clean and not stuck, changed the plugs, put it back together and same rusults, checked for vac. leaks, checked for headgasket leaks, checked compression and everything seems fine, the motor only has about 30hours on it since rebuild. What the cat hair am i missing here?

Perform the "synch and link" procedure.

You'll need a manual to do it.

It is a procedure to adjust the carbs in relation to the ignition timing. You need a Manual to do this, as DJ said. Not hard, just need a Manual to walk you through it..

Ok checked it out and everything seems ok, the motor runs real good plenty of power and speed, but when it comes to starting up it starts real easy then when you put it in gear you have to advance the throttle real fast or it dies, maybe i set the idle to low but in neutral is sounds like its running to fast. Now back to the original question, what is the idle rpm or is there no recomendation from omc.
