Idle troubles...

[55'Fleetwin7.5]

I could use a bit of advice on idle adjustments on a 55' Evinrude 7.5...
i had the upper (low speed I think) adjustment feelin' pretty good... Idled well all the way down past the shift mark to the slow mark.

then I went for the bottom ( hight speed ) adjustment... First it raced and smoked a lot, when I turned it left or loosened... finally it stalled and would not restart. I turned it back to the right... opened the choke to get it started and now it is going fast.slow.fast.slow in cycles... Any advice here?
