This weekend We took the NEW boat To lake Travis, It's a 2006 Caravelle, with a 4.3 Volvo Penta, it has the carb...... This is the 1st time I had this boat out. and the previous owner filled her up with fuel b4 I took delivery.

I was reading about fuel and it said use the higher Octaine, 93 + so I dont know what was put in it. Also while there I had it topped off. and of corse they didn
t know the rating at the marina.... " they have Boys that JUMP when a poat pulls up..." I know-I got Screwed on the price "

But it seemes to need to warm up before idleing while in gear. We went to Devils cove....it's a heavly populated party place. Just wondering if this is Normal ?
the previous said he had it serviced. But Doubt if that means a tune up....

Not knowing about these engines, Was wondering if they need plugs and such offten? it idles at 400 RPM with no load. and she does purr like a kitten.

Thanks For any advice

Sounds like a normal carbed engine to me. I might use 93 octane if it's ethanol free, otherwise, I'll save my money. My boat is a 2005. Still on original plugs, 198 hours on the clock. Will probably change plugs at the end of the season. Every 250-300 hours unless getting misfires seems like a reasonable interval to me. YMMV.

Just to give you a little more context, late last season, I backed out of the launch and attempted to go to WOT. She hesitated, then bogged, then cut out. Started her back up, put in neutral and revved to about 2500 rpm for a minute or so. Opened her back up and off I went. As I got on plane, I wondered why it hadn't done that all season. Then I remembered that every other launch I use has a good bit of stretch with a no wake zone. The putzing around at no wake speed warmed up my motor up enough to be ready to go to WOT without any problems.
