what is the purpose of the igniton amplifier on the ignition system, my own mark mercruiser igniton thunderbolt lv but i remove it cause my distributer only have a b+ and a tach do i need to reconnect this amplifier back ? or i am good without it .
Bondo......Ayuh,.........
You'll be Just Fine without it...........
Just bring your Paddle with you,........'cause the motor Won't run.........

Wow I didnt see responses like these coming.
Tiger explain why you dont think you need it. Maybe these guys will help you and explain the importance of the part.![]()
...but i might be of more electronic knowledge...
tigerhack said:now i would define the term ignition amplifier to my terms.....one the term amplify is to put to a larger quantity right ? ignition is the whole ignition system that make the boat function firing order points plugs etc, so to my term this is to boast the ignition system right ?
tigerhack said:thats all i am asking i was just not sure...because i am new to boat and i am having problem thanks in advance.

What exactly are the symptoms of your problem? That would be more helpful for us to help you.
...Not being the Electronics type,........
I see it as a Switch, Not an Amplifier,........![]()
A points type system does not have an amplifier.....
A points type distributer will not work on a TB IV system....
& vice versa.......
Is your distributer the original one?......
Hmmm... don't think so....
Sorry, wrong again....
The ignition amplifier is an electronic module design to take the signal from the position sensor inside the distributor and fire the ignition coil. It replaces only the points and condensor (capacitor to the electronic types) from the Kettering ignition system. It's absence will ensure that no spark is produced, thus rendering the rest of the engine redundant...

Chris...........
Don't confuse things Lakester, there is little the same in an IO points system and the Thunderbolt ignition and an outboard.
We are talking Mercruiser, NOT Evenrude
i am here to learn not argue.
Tiger, what color are the wires hooked to your distributor? Is the amplifier (aka ignition module) mounted on the distributor or the port exhaust manifold.
Ayuh,......
And That's Why We're here........To Help you......
The concept here, As I Understand it,.... Is,.....
You ask a Question,.....And somebody, Possibly more knowledgeable, will Answer....
But that Question has to be asked in a somewhat understandable common english using terms that can be identified,(reasonable spelling,+ punctuation is a Plus too) explaining exactly What is Wrong with your boat.....
When asked What a component Is,.... You might have to Go Look or somehow otherwise Identify it.......
Even though We all know that Don has a Crystal Ball,..........
The rest of Us regular posters here Don't.............
Sooooooooooo,................
If you want to back track,.....
And Identify all those Answers to all the Questions asked of you Above,..................
We'll be Glad to Help you learn what the components Are,+ How they Work..........
Btw,.................
If I owe you an apology for poking fun at you above,.........
It's Offered..........................![]()
