Ignition Coil question

1979 Evinrude 15HP, Has the original coils on it was going to include replacing with the tune up. The smaller wire from the old coil goes into a rubber block that I cannot get the wire out of so is it okay to cut the old wire from the rubber block and connect the new wire to it with a solderless connector?
Thanks

Re: Ignition Coil question

I don't think you should be cutting any wires. Can you post a picture of the coil and wire you are talking about?

The coils sound original, you can do one of two things, cut the wire and solder with heatshrink or get a new connector and shove it back through the plug where you pull the old one out.

Thanks, I was already considering the heat shrink method. Maybe attempt this on Thursday when the rest of the parts I ordered come in.

Re: Ignition Coil question

I ended up cutting the connector and reseting the wires then siliconed it to reseal. Did not cut the wires. So far seems to run fine as far as spark is concerned, still have fuel issues to work out.
Thanks again for the advice.
