Just thought i would share this information that i found...
So my cousin's boat has a 92' Merc 3.0L with alpha 1 outdrive.
He was having problems with occasional ignition fuse blowing. We testing the amps draw on it and it seemed normal (10A fuse 3A draw) if i remember correctly. Well after doing some investigating, we came to the conclusion that is was a dead short and looking all around the boat found that the two wires on the trim limit switch on the outdrive (located on port side) had 2bare wire and would contact and trip the fuse. This was occasional since raising and lowering the outdrive changed the position of the wire, which made it very difficult to track down.
This seems to be a common issue bc i looked at my 91' with the same engine and outdrive and it had the 2 bare wires. Also looked at my buddies boat and the same thing.
Well i hope this helps anyone with an Alpha 1, check for this problem!!
