Ignition Key (getting a copy made)

My wife and I purchased a 1976 boat with a Mecury OB.
The original key came with the boat, but there was only one and we want to have a copy made. The local locksmith has tried (twice) to make a copy, but niether set worked. When tried, they would go in part way and not turn.
Does anyone know where we can obtain a proper "blank" to provide to the locksmith?
Thanks a lot,
Greg

Find a new locksmith. This isn't rocket science. The blank is a common type so unless the original key is very worn, it should not be a problem making a duplicate. But the dealer has them as pointed out.

The Mercury part number for the #127 key (already cut to fit) is 30431127. About $3 each.

I asked a nearly identical question last week. Keys are available dirt cheap thru a dealer. My local hardware gets $2.50/ key, and as Don says, Keys right from Mercury are only a few cents over $3.
