It's a post by Nightvision on Boating, not Engine Topics.

Re: Ignition Module Is Bad on Thunderbolt V?

Milkyway, your carburettor has a small storage area for a little bit of gas, when you 'flick' the throttle, a small amount of fuel gets pumped into the throat of the carburettor from the abovementioned storage area. Flicking the throttle also sets the choke. No, you shouldn't need to have the ignition on.

The normal procedure for starting a cold carbed motor is........

Arrive at boat and turn on bilge blower.

After a few minutes, have a sniff around to make sure there are no gas smells.

Give the throttle one or two flicks.

Turn key. Vroooommmm!!!

If she don't go vrooommm!! Tune up.

Aldo

Re: Ignition Module Is Bad on Thunderbolt V?

Just reporting the results of my last weekend's progress.

In 3 instances of starting the engine "cold", I pumped the throttle twice and the engine started in one click. Happy about it. It is still hard starting when it's warm/hot, so I really have to get going on doing a full tuneup. Thanks to all.

milky

the hard hot starting is more about finding a sweet spot for the throttel might be 1/2 or even 3/4 then a quick throttle down to idle speed

just like the strange way for a cold start there is a way to get the best hot start

tommays
