I was just getting ready to order tune up parts for my 5 hp. And with all of the brands available and wide price differences I was wondering who's the best after market brand for ignition parts? Mallory, CDI, Sierra, I know that original equipment is the best in most cases. but probably the most important question is who the worst?

I would not assume anyone could, truthfully, make a general statement like that.

Opinions are one thing, facts are another.

I've had issues with all. I tend to use OEM whenever I can. It all depends on what I'm working on and my time frame.

Here's my $.02 (take for what it's worth :D)

#1 OEM
#2 Mallory
#3 Sierra or CDI

I just put a CDI ignition conversion on my 7.5HP Force and wasn't thrilled at the quality of one of the coil packs. The coil has an epoxy formed case which had a lot of air bubbles (porosity) and I could even see a metal object inside the coil through one of the air bubbles, coil not 100% encapsulated.

I understand that a response to the question would be just that . An opinion. Hopefully an educated opinion that would help a novice such as myself make an informed purchase on products I have no knowledge about. I've read several posts where the member expressed a bias for or against certain brands an was in search of just that . An opinion. And I am greatful to anyone that shares theirs. Thanks
