I have an older post out there that has probably outlived its usefulness. Basically, I have occasional backfiring and loss of power. Once I put a new tach on that worked I noticed the RPM signal from it was going crazy at the same time as the backfire issue. Basically it appears like the ECU is working off bad data.
So, I’m going to replace some ignition parts. When I search my serial number I come up with a Mercruiser ICM of 8m0123099
Is this the same as an AC Delco D1943A? Since that isn’t Mercruiser expensive I can afford to change that on a hunch.
Also, since I’m going to change that should I go ahead and change the coil under the rotor? I’m assuming that is what has the Hall effect sensor in it to pick up rpms?
These are items 8 and 9 on the diagram. What the heck is this ignition actually called? It’s not the thunderbolt right?
