Hello,

I just recently aquired a "fixer-upper" from my father in law. I'm in need of a diagram on the ignition switch electrical so that I can install a new switch since the original is missing. I have 8 wires coming back from the harness within the cowling. Tracing the circuits only seem to confuse me more - though I believe I've purchased the correct "push to choke" switch.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Frank

You will need to post your model number to find out year of motor and what type of electrical system you have.

I am pretty sure this is right though
Red wire to postion B on switch
Green Wire to position C
Yellow wire to position S
Blue wire to position M
White wire goes to other M
This is from the Clymer manual. Hope it works for your switch

Note this if for 45 HP with Magneto ignition

The Seloc manual shows the white wire going to M and the blue wire going to the other M. It shows the orange wire going to the accessory warning device and then to I on the switch. BUT, this is for the 45 hp with the flywheel magneto type 1 ignition. The accessory overheat device is only supplied with the 55hp model.

Thanks eurolarva and scotiany - excellent information!! :) The model number is 455HA, and if it helps, the S/N is 3891. The switch I have has 6 terminals, with the "I" being one of them. I'm assuming "I" stands for "ignition"?

Yours is a 1970 model. Don't hook anything up to "I" except for an overheat device(horn, light etc.) This would require an overheat transmitter on your powerhead. There is a place south of Albany- The Boat Warehouse_ that sells new ignition switches for your engine. If they do, someone else has to have them.

Re: Ignition switch diagram for Chrysler 45HP

Hey Skistars. Went out and looked at my switch. Mine has six legs as well however only five of them are being used. My empty leg has no letter on it Mine is wired m to blue, B to red, S to yellow, C to Green and M to white. The wire harness has a black, Gray and orange wire that is not being used and is just tied back. Hope this is of some help. Sorry but cant find a part number on the switch,

5H268 short shank and 5H078 long shank. These are the Chrysler OEM switch replacement numbers.

TMD

As far as a good manual to pick up that would show me the complete wiring schematic, what would be a good one and a place to pick up?

My preference is the Seloc manual. It has a full page wiring diagram of your engine in the appendix. It also has a whole lot of information and tricks which are very helpful. I like the way it is written and illustrated versus the Clymer manual. They're always up for auction on ebay.
