I have a 2003 Larson with 4.3 Volvo. My ignition switch is bad. Just curious if anyone would know the part number. I did some looking on the net came up with a Sierra MP39800, it looks like that. but but has 4 tabs on back. My switch has no part numbers and boat dealer was not reluctant to give me part number, he just said he has one and it is 35 bucks. Any help would be good. Thanks

Re: Ignition Switch Part Number?

If you really want the part number to shop around, I would personally recommend pressing the dealer for it. Tell him you want to make sure it's the right one before purchase. Or you could go in with your other one to "compare" them and get the part number at that time. Nothing is forcing you to purchase it from him.

HOWEVER...

Though I am in a "smaller" city of about 45,000 people, I am lucky enough to have three different Mercruiser dealers within a few miles. In order to ensure that they are around and still in business when I need something at 2pm on a Saturday, I try to buy everything I can from them. Sure, buying something online might save you a few bucks, but can you call the people you are ordering from online and get free advice, even if you are a good customer? So, I try and stay local whenever possible. JM2C.

Re: Ignition Switch Part Number?

Your post said the dealer was NOT reluctant to give you the PN?

So why are you asking here?
So confusing...

If yours has 4 connectors you need one with 4.
If yours has 3 either a 3 or 4 connector switch will work, just use the 3 you need. The 4th is usually an accessory position.

Just use one for inboard as outboard switches are different.

An automotive switch will work in a pinch but will be way more susceptible to corrosion so you should go with a marine version.

What the guys are saying is you are worrying about it too much. The important thing to consider about the switch is whether or not the threaded shank is long enough to go thru the dash. Some boat dashboards are very thick.
