Hello,
I am wondering if someone can tell me how to rewire my new ignition switch to my 1983 50hp. The old factory switch broke and this is an aftermarket Sierra with 6 screw terminals, if someone can tell me which wire goes where I would appreciate it!

Re: Ignition switch replacment

Ok so I got it all hooked up the way you told me as well as a marine supply place where I live and I went to turn it on, the engine cranked for about one second and then shut off and will not even seem to get power. I changed battery connections, made sure it was charged and went over the wiring again and it all seems tight, but when I go to turn the key the motor will not click and I am not sure what happened. Any help is much appreciated as I am planning to go to the lake tommorow! Thank you

My guess is that you blew the fuse on the motor, if you didn't disconnect the battery prior to replacing switch. Check it and replace if blown and I bet you're good to go.

Yes, I replaced the switch with the battery disconnected and it started up like I said for a second and cranked and then died and wont even click when you turn the key. I checked the inline fuse and it was intact and I put a new one in and still nothing. Not sure what else this could be?

You said you checked "the inline fuse". Where is this fuse located? The one we are talking about is under the engine cover. The one you check is likely by the battery (I'm guessing) and has nothign to do with the engine. Make sure when you are looking at the letter markings on the switch that you are associating them with the correct terminal.
