Yes , there is a special tool. But you can take a wide blade screw driver or straight edge and align the power pack with the armature plate.

Hi ... I have another strange thing this am..... As I connected the battery, without turning the key, the started engaged and spun. I disconnected the ignition switch and it did the same. When I used a continuity tester on the solenoid i got a possitive reading from the possitive post to grounded... I am assuming a bad solenoid.... is that correct.??

After reading this post and responding to your other it may be very well connected to same issue you described of not shutting down. Something is allowing power to engage the starter. I'm curious as to if it will automatically fix itself once you put the new pack in place.

Tap the solenoid with the handle of a screw driver once and see what happens.

hi guys .... heres the latest...... i fitted the new ignition module under the flywheel.... ignition on off works now and so does the i switch.... BUT !.... yes .. BUT..... I cannot get the motor to keep running I had rebuilt the carbs prior to this issue... The only new issue i can see is that when primimg some gas squirts out of the red primer insert... would this casue loss of pressure for the gas from the pump??

Re: ignition switch// seloniod problem 1993 48 evinrude SPL

Thanks for very ones help...!! I have the motor running.... rough but running... I know its a fuel delivery problem either the pump , the primer solenoid or the primer bulb.... I rebuilt the carbs this am and cleaned the fuel system. Only strange thing is that the idle screws on the carbs dont speed up or slow down the motor... However the primer bulb goes soft.... So I am leaning towards bad bulb and line or fuel pump going out.

Definitely sounds like a restriction or bad pump. Have you checked to make sure all your lines are air tight? New marine grade line, bulb and quick connects should be in the 60-85 neighborhood. I'd start there if the lines old. Check the pick up tube and filters also. If you don't have a filter I recommend you install one. I will read back on my notes to see how to test your fuel pump.

Its a bad pump I can see a crack in the piece that connects to the fuel line... I am happy though at least its and easy fix .... !! thank rpsloan... I found it after rechecking all the lines as per your advice..... It also runs better when i pump the primer bulb.... so I am very close to getting back on the water!!

Excellent. It sucks you have to buy more parts, but on the plus side you should have a good running motor and you know what has been done to it as of late.
