Having trouble starting '87 88 SPL after a salt water in contact with ignition switch episode. After rinsing the ignition switch wiring and allowing it to dry, I tried to start the motor. All I got was a "bump." I don't know if this means the starter solenoid is getting 12V or not. Since I hear a bump, I would assume the solenoid circuit is closing, but there is no motor cranking. I am inclined to replace the ignition switch thinking this will solve the problem- but am looking for advice. Is there any easy way to jumper 12V to the starter solenoid to diagnose ignition switch problems?

Re: Ignition switch

make sure all your connections are tight and clean starter bat solenoid all grounds don't sound like the switch also make sure the wires on the switch are clean and tigth you should beable to jump over the 2 small post on the sol.
