ignition switch

Hi guys i have a 1976 85 hp johnson seahorse. Well the other day i left the ignition switch in the on position from a few days and now wont turn over. I checked the battery its pretty new and i jumped the selinoied and it cranked.I'm wondering since its an old ignition if it got burned out or something. Any help is appericiated thanks.

Nah, that wouldn't have hurt anything. And obviously your battery still has a charge. At an Evinrude service seminar the factory service manager gave us some advice for guys in your situation. He said:

Get away from the controls, go to the other end of the boat or something. Sit down, pop a top, smoke a smoke, or whatever you do. Wait at least ten minutes. After you have regained your composure, begin at the beginning. Is it in neutral? Is the throttle in the start position? Etc, Etc.

lol it was a darn fuse thats all thanks for your help anyway.

You still have to wonder what took out the fuse to begin with, something had to pull too many amps or bad connection that melted the link.
Just something to think about.
