Hi everyone. New here on iboats. Got a 1977 Johnson 55HP outboard and it looks like I will need a ignition switch. What do I need to do and where can I go in the Twin Cities to buy one? Are they simple to install? The original key doesnt seem to work. Please let me know your expertise. Thanks

Is it the key that you need or the switch? The switch will depend on the remote control that you have. New keys are easy because the number should be stamped on the exposed surface of the ignition switch.

Well that is the problem I dont know. My dad passed away and the key he gave me we tried. The boat hasnt been in the water for 20 years as it was stored in my dads garage. We had a hard time to get the key in, and once we succeeded the key was able to move in and out but you can't turn it to the right or the left to start it.

Spray some WD40 into the opening then work the key in and out while jiggling it up and down. The tumblers have probably corroded.
