Just call it 'stupid'. We'll know what you mean. :)

Don't have a clue why Am football is so popular. In the world of pro sports, it doesn't have an equal...fortunately. Or maybe it does; is croquette a professional sport?
:D

We call cricket cricket, you call cricket cricket. Europeans call cricket cricket.
But the crickets call it grasshopper.
:D

American football is popular because it adds and element of suspense to the game. When they hike the ball you dont know what is the plan. They could run, pass, or combo of both.

All other sports have much less planning and stratedgy.

Ken

Good point, Ken. So, does NFL football have more, or less, strategy than a good round of croquette?
:D

But the USA isn't. ESPN would like to make it happen so don't say that the networks don't want it. The audience is just not there!

We have a better product in our "football" that makes soccer look like the snore that it is!

Maybe if I had a television near my toilet, then I might watch soccer.

Can't really tell i you are serious but...............IF you don't think NFL football involves more stategy than the other major sports and more than croquette (not even sure its possible to compare the two) THEN you have absolutely no concept of the game and your opinions about it aree worthless IMHO.

NFL is 16 games......you can't win by luck, and every single one matters. One mistake from any player at any time can/will cause the other team to score.

If you don't like football thats fine, but dont compare it to croquette and dont call it stupid................whether you like it or not it is quickly becoming America's sport along with NASCAR...........which also involves a lot of physics and precision that if you don't understand then once again its ridiculous to call it stupid or something like that.

I have nothing against soccer........like I said before I will and have watched the world cup. I go to the indoor games........its just not tops on my need to watch list.

1.God
2.Family
2.Football

Ken,
I absolutely LOVE college football (Roll Tide), even more than soccer.

One thing I don't like about football is that there can be 45 seconds between plays. Soccer, for the most part, is non-stop action. Yes, when the football is hiked, there can be 5 seconds on a short run or a more exciting run can even go for 30 seconds or more. Same thing for passing game.

With soccer, you have 22 "quarterbacks" on the field who can dribble the ball, shoot it, pass it to any of the other 10 players on their team. All soccer players must learn offensive and defensive skills. Once you lose the ball on offense, you are now a defender.

It's hard to compare the two sports.

P.O.N.Y. – of course I’m kidding. Croquette is the most boring sport on the planet, played by old ladies with walkers. Even the Brits think so, but they still crawl over each other to play in a 3-day tournament, bored out of their skulls the entire time.
:D

Its been a while but I think it might still be close: in the US bowling is the most popular participation sport (more folks bowl than any other sport). For kids, more play youth soccer than any other sport. Game attendance went to either tennis or golf, I forget. And TV viewing is NFL football. Like I said, it’s been a couple years since reading that so it might have changed but I would expect it to still be close.

Only two sports I regularly watch on the tube; soccer and bicycle racing. The World Cup is on and the Tour D France starts July 1st. As much as the French hate us, for the last few years they watched as a yank walked away as the victor of their prized sporting event.
:)

Edit: ok, 3rd sport I now watch on the tube; sumo wrestling. Turns out there is more to it than just a couple of fat boys in diapers crashing into each other. It’s actually pretty exciting to watch.

Re: I'll watch soccer when....

I have played all of the "4 major" sports at an organized, read competitive teen/adult level, and to be honest I can't stand to watch "football" anymore. Having played, it is the most boring sport to watch on tv. When you're in the huddle or on the field beteween plays, the anticipation is awesome, but on TV it just announcers rambling about nothing. Thats not to say they couldn't be better, at least to me, but the game is televised for the masses that have little if any undestanding of the small things happening on each play. With that said, I'm not a "soccer" fan by any stretch but have found myself watching a few games and being entertained. The sport is very comparable to my personal favourite, Queens English inentional out of respect for the creators of the game, hockey. For those that don't believe it is strategy 100% I will personally attest that you have not played the game at a high level. Every posession of the puck/ball is with players going to certain areas and working unchoreographed from there. That meaning certain players go to areas with a purpose and move to new areas in an adjustment to devensive schemes. On defense you are constantly counteracting your oppositions movements while paying attention to defensive assignments. The number one reason, IMHO, soccer and hockey don't translate well to US viewers is the fact that there is no IMMEDIATE measure as to who is gaining ground on the other. Football has its yard lines, baseball its bases, basketball points scored at a furious pace, golf constant ups and downs of scores, NASCAR has its splits and so on down the sports. In both soccer and hockey a 0-0 game is not proof positive as to how the actual game was played. One team can be entirely dominate and not win. With all that said I do not expect the masses to go to these sports. My opinion is they should play to there niche markets and add to them slowly, as football and basketball did, and steadly grow the game to a much more visible level instead of trying to rapidly become a "national pastime" of sorts.

Hellooo??? Link, come back buddy...you're so far out there, farther then Major Tom. This is ground control to Major Tom....for the girlie guys? are you out of your mind? where in the crap that you have to make up for the other team points? and NO, soccer is not a water down version of ruggby, it's totally different game. If you think it girlie, try to go out on a 100 meters long by 50 meters wide and run constantly for 45 minutes half without time out.
ROFLMAO :D
I just said the girlie stuff to razz you guys!
I do that to my fishing partner (A AVID football fan) all the time ;)

But my question about if soccor and rugby were two different games was real. I thought they were.

As far as the points go and helping the other kids/team score?? 8 to 12 year old.

Daughter said that those are the rules set up by the Portland (Oregon) school system.
I said school, but I'm not certain of that.
She used soccor techie talk like leagues, divisions etc that I didnt follow.

She said the parents and kids alike don't like it but if they want to play soccor at a young age it is the only thing available.
