Washington State lost about 50% of it's peach crop because they could not get legal workers to pick. The apple growers are paying legals to learn how to pick.

I know a lady who made $400. in three days picking.

So there is a need for DOCUMENTED WORKERS.

Its not just stoop labor. Lots of them running the machinery. Check the labor force at say, a boat factory.

It is often said on this site that the left offers no plan to make things better, so here is mine on immigration:

1. Allow employers to issue work permits to foreign labor.

2. Require under severe penalty (this is on books today) of $10,000 per violation for working people without withholding Income Tax and SS.

3. Enforce the present law.

4. Change to present law, no violation if employer is withholding and paying FICA and SS.

5. Makes competition equal on tax issues and increases tax revenues from fake employees as taxes must be paid even on fake documents.

As long as they had documentation that the employee was legal, yes.

This pretty much already happens unless the employer knows they are Illegal.

There is a basic problem with what goes on in school also

As a 16 year old i went to a 2 year trade school 1/2 school 1/2 trade even in 1973/74 it was becoming very looked down upon in this area to work with your hands from the school systems point of view

It is far worse NOW there is this continual push that we are a high tech country and everybody needs to go to collage

I think we need balance when the school system comes to find a trade job is something to be looked down upon it lacks balance and a realistic point of view for the nations need for all types of skills

Congratulations8) I thought you were leaving Oregon. Sounds like a nice setup. My wife agrees that there isn't a lot or shop too larged

We have an "Egghead" society when it comes to education. It's deemed that the more degrees you have, the smarter you are. Oh, it is not true. The degrees prove a steadfastness of ones willingness to put up with and thrive in the egghead society. That's all.

Rome fell under the most educated, of their own making.

Don't ge me wrong, education is ESSENTIAL, to society. Yet, we've taken a turn to the ridiculous.

It started in the sixties, when "educators" deemed "crafts/trades" as nonsensical and not needed. So, we ignored them. So, now what do we get? Illegals doing the trades, half A$$ I might add, to a great part.

I heard of a study today, that said that over 30% of US teenagers had trouble with the concept of making a sandwich. God help us. Over 50% had no idea what a frying pan was for.

Rant aside, where does that leave us. Basically, we are a society that is beginning to have no concept of what it takes to actually live. We're leaving that up to illegal immigrants that will do the menial roles and EVENTUALLY take over. Actually, we're exploiting these people and we're loving it.

We are rotting from within.

I'll say again, I have NO issue with immigration, or a worker program. But, we need to know WHO is here and WHY.

Rant aside, where does that leave us. Basically, we are a society that is beginning to have no concept of what it takes to actually live. We're leaving that up to illegal immigrants that will do the menial roles and EVENTUALLY take over. Actually, we're exploiting these people and we're loving it.

We are rotting from within.


Funny thing is, my step brother did 7 years in Hawaii at college.... works as manger in a parts house.

Oldest sister went into the Army, took classes and is an Electrical Engineer.

Step sister did 4 years in college, house wife with a part time job as a receptionist.

I went right into the work force after high school, got into construction at the bottom, learned the trade, and am licensed in 2 ways and I'm working on my 3rd... own my own business...

The kids that are smart will figure it out, the ones that go to college and are smart will also figure it out... it's a hard world out there, and probably harder for the college educated.

There will always be a place for the person that works with their hands... always.

Please do not misconstrue my rant about education.

It is important.

I have a degree. I learned:

1. English.

2. Chemistry.

3. Biology.

4. Math.

I also learned the entry level skills into a trade that I desired. The rest, advancement, was up to me.

I've done well. I studied hard and I graduated, from a school of over 10K students, in the top 5% at 3.86 GPA.

I'm damn proud of that.

But, that was NOTHING compared to what I learned in real life. My education helped me understand and figure out things that others could not. Just a fact.

To each his own... I didn't mean to disparage education, I was just pointing out that education was not the "be all, or end all" of life.

I've had to work with "book learned" Architects and engineers that had no experience in real life... what a nightmare, they had no idea of how something had to go together.... just theory.. So of course it was a cluster FUN from the start,,, not all that much fun at the end either 8)
