I'm a normal person again (for the most part)

As some may remember, I started what I believed to be a new career in law enforcement at the beginning of the year. I ended that career yesterday with what can only be described as early, early retirement. I realized as I was having training issues and just doing the job that it wasn't for me. I am fine with that, I don't want to do a job I am not suited for. There were parts I enjoyed for sure, but overall I realized it wasn't working for me. It takes a certain kind of person, and I am not that person. So now I am a free agent for a bit. Even though my income is not assured, I feel relief and peace...

Re: I'm a normal person again (for the most part)

Good luck Jason,
You knew what was best for you and acted on it.
Find something you enjoy doing, life is too short!
You can read from my other post i quit my job monday but things worked out and i found something better.

My neice went thru all the training for law enforcement and lasted about 5 months on the job before she realized it wasn't for her either.
It does take a special kind of person to deal with that type of work.
Now your family doesn't have to worry about you not coming home at night..
Good luck to you and keep us posted..

Yeah good luck Jason. being a LEO is definitely not for everyone and it's never easy or straightforward.

Must have been extremely difficult for you to take the step you did and that deserves tremendous respect. Sad thing is that it shows the strength of character you have and I suspect that the law enforcement community probably lost a really good candidate.

I wish you well in whatever path you choose to do in the future and hope you won't be without a job for too long................daytime TV will drive you crazy!

Keep your chins up! d:)

After looking at your rebuild pic's maybe boat restoration is what your niche is. Great work.

It is a wise man who knows when he doesn't fit and has the guts to walk away.

Best of luck, Jason. :)

Good thing you have other talents and the confidence that it obviously embolds in you that you are able to take risks in your life and always land feet first. Good luck with whatever you do Jason.

PS - I just reviewed the new and improves Shanty...Looks great!

You didn`t fail, just make sure you don`t think that you did.

You`re the better man for going in another direction. I`ve seen officers that shouldn`t have been and believe me you don`t want to be one of those.

Jason,

Based on the high quality of your work on boat restoration and models, you can do anything you want because you have the determination and talent to see it through. You just have to find the right fit for you. Best of luck.

Good on ya, Jason..
My brother had 5+ yrs with the RCMP, from Nain Labrador, to under-cover Narc in North Vancouver. Got tired of seeing people screwing their lives away. He's a Capt. in The Toronto FD now (20 yrs). Loves it! You'll find what you like to do... good luck!

Everyone here has already said it, but good for you. I think both the desire to become a LEO and the maturity to know when to call it off are awesome!!

You'll be succesful at anthying you do . . .

I judge that as a good sign, You are prior Army and at least you know when things are going right and when things are not. Better you ended that career than having not so good events in your future.

I applaud your decision. Do something you enjoy and you will be better off in the long run.

Jason,

I've had the experience of knowing what I was doing was wrong for me, and having to change. It isn't easy, but it's better than staying in a field that makes you unhappy.

I've no doubt you have the skills to make a living, I am confident that you will find something to do that will make you happy too.

I have a few little basic sayings I have picked up over the years and apply them to my life/business.

No3.
"if you can't make it work/if it won't work, shoot it between the eyes and go do something that will work"

"I knew a fellow. One day he took off all of his clothes and jumped into a cactus patch, when he was asked why he did it he just said . 'it seemed like a right thing at the time'" (The Magnificent Seven, 1960) Hope you get all the needles pick out. ;)

Good decision. If it didn't seem right in the beginning, imagine a few years down the road.

Since the law enforcement thing isn't for you, maybe look into bank robbery? Just kidding, the right thing will happen along. What do you like to do?

Re: I'm a normal person again (for the most part)

Thanks guys. I went back to my previous job at the pest control/landscaping company. My boss had always said the door would always be open. This time around I am in more of a management position. I'll still do some pest control, but I will do more of managing what is going on and making sure the others are trained properly. My first task is to ride with each person and see what they are doing and make whatever changes are necessary.

It is hard to find a niche, boat repair and such is good, but there are never any openings in my area. For such a boat oriented area its amazing how little there is in the way of boat oriented work. Of course, opening a side business in boat repair is on my mind, and that is a course I may persue. I just need to get things taken care of first.

So, no worries. Yeah, I am starting out at what I was making when I left, but I'll get a raise soon, and it will go from there. I'm not making much less than at the PD, and I'll exceed the PD wage easily by this time next year.
