wow - didn't mean that to be so confusing.

Yeah in that photo, I'm cutting out new seat bottoms for the two rear seats that flank the motor. And the quiz question: the big piece that's already missing from the plywood in that photo became half of the transom like two years ago. The Admiral was pleased to see the remainder of that sheet come out of the garage and get smaller.

And yeah I think Dozer wins the beer. Come on over any time this weekend Dozer, I'll be sitting in the boat and staring pretty much the whole weekend.

And speaking of Saskatchewan Dozer... you ever watch that show Corner Gas? I stumbled across it a while back and ended up downloading all six seasons. Man what a great show.

That's about the best price I've seen for a remote. As far as I know, Merc outboards and Mercruiser use the same cables.

what was on my boat was a single lever that operates shift and throttle cables. I kinda like the idea of separating them to their own lever. that's just the kinda guy I am. I suppose I need to think about the types of connectors that are on the shifter-end of the cable are what the control unit is willing to accept. So merc is friendly with merc, does that mean something made for a Johnson won't fit my merc?

In the description of the remote, there is a mention of adapters for the cables. Since Uflex cables are a direct replacement for Merc cables there shouldn't be a problem. Also they say:

for all outboard engines
Made of nylon fiberglass with anodized aluminum levers
Left or right side mount installation
For use with Teleflex engine control cables: CC205 with K23 connection kit; CC170 with K24 connection kit; CC172, CC633 with K25 xxxconnection kit; CC179 without connection kit

The CC179 are Merc cables, so you don't need any adapter kits. It seem like the connection kits are to adapt non-Merc cables to Merc type remote ends. The others are Jonnyrudes, Morse and universal - all need kits. Only the Merc cable CC179 doesn't need an adapter.

One thing I don't see anything about is a neutral switch. It must have one.

EDIT - the Merc cable 179 is a Gen 1 cable. Pretty sure you will be OK.

That's a switch that won't let me start it when it's in gear? I would guess they all have that kinda thing wouldn't they?

and thanks for your help....

No Prob, Papa. I like those controls too. The idea of two handles would work for me. Kinda old school, but nicely compact. The neutral switch must be a standard in remotes, just usually see it mentioned.

i'll be curious to get your take on quality etc. I've toyed with adding a 2d control box for my kicker, to simplify trolling on it.

Yeah I'm curious about quality on this unit too. It's about the cheapest control box out there. I just happen to think it's also the coolest looking of the ones iboats sells. All those other ones look like they belong in fiberglass boats.

Speaking of ordering stuff. If you guys haven't yet, add stuff you need to the shopping cart after signing in and close the page abandoning the cart. A couple days later they start sending you emails with discount codes if you complete your order. Some places it's up to 10% off or free shipping even. Iboats likes the 5% off.

I'm all in on the dual levers!

Yep, I've seen that at a couple other sites as well. Gotta add a couple extra days into your plan though....
