Ok guys here's the run down. I have a 1969 Chrysler 55hp, Model 5591 Serial Number 1703, I can not get it to start. What i have done so far, new battery, new starter, new fuel lines, cleaned all the metal 90 degree elbows, rebuilt the fuel pump, cleaned out the fuel settling bowl, new spark plugs, cleaned and drained the carb along with the settling bowl.
Guys, it will fire up after a small shot of carb cleaner but then it dies. The longest it ran for was probably 30 seconds. Please please please guys, any thoughts on what the heck is going on? I know its getting gas which leads me to believe its a spark issue but, after all my epic fails I'm done trying to know what I'm talking about.

Thanks guys

I'm no expert, but if your getting gas to the carbs (fuel bowl full after being emptied and reinstalled) and aspirating starter fluid into the carbs, it sounds to me that the fuel air mixture is way off and no air is getting in to mix with the fuel or that the fuel is not getting in to mix with the air. I would remove the carb/s and ensure every passagway is clear and flowing.

thats my two cents....you may owe me change, lol

straight up, you're not getting fuel. crack you carb bowl nut, verify fuel is getting at least THAT far. I had an issue where the jet was clogged with crap from the fuel tank. Your engine runs on a shot of carb cleaner, so that says everything is good, except fuel flow.

But on the other hand, with a handle like Veedub, I suggest you take off all the modifications you made to this boat after reading the VW performance forums. Take the chip outta the computer, put the O2 sensors back in, get rid of the "Euro" style tailamps, put the stock exhaust back on, and for God sakes remove the lowering springs, and your tires will wear properly, now!! :^)

cracked the nut, full of gas, pumped the primer bulb and getting full flow. Ill double back and check on it again tomorrow. As far as my "handle" goes, its the initials in my last name, easier to say veedub than my last name, its an old army name that's not going away. Thanks for the carb input.

My 105 did something similar it would crank and hit and maybe run for 30 seconds. For me it was a spark issue. I needed new points to start with and later found a ground wire that went from the distributor to the ground on the coil was off.
