engine 0k009133. free up the engine. engine had been submerged pervious owner left pulg in, don't know how long submerged. pulled intake manifold shows some rust in the intake outlets. intake gasket showed damage. removed heads gaskets looked good. #5 valves are rust in the open position. cylinders look good no scoring, pistons look good. got all water and milkshake out of the block after 5 gals of diesel. block shows no rust can see cams thru top of block all clean and shiny. i'm thinking having head done and putiing it back together. with new manifolds. if i'm missing something let me know.

If it were mine, I would be very concerned about the main and rod bearings. With that much water in the engine, at first it is all in the bottom of the pan (Oil floats on the water) then when it's started, you are using water for lubrication instead of oil until the oil and water mix. and I have no idea how long that takes due to rpm and amount of water in the engine.
You may be money ahead (IMHO) to pull the engine dissassemble, inspect, put in new bearings on rods and mains if the crank is ok. (don't forget about the cam and cam bearings) New seal, and gaskets, hone the cylinders, new rings, and bingo. Have the heads redone and you have a trustworthy engine again.

I agree w/ Don, I had saltwater mixed w/oil in my newer 5.7l for less than a week (leaking older manifolds). I was able to change the oil once during that vaction. After a bent rod that required teardown, I found alot of rust on the crank and camshaft bearing surfaces, not to mention the valves were pretty ugly. I scrapped the iron and started over. A new one is being built in the machine shop this winter. I'm sure Don sees this often. At least tear it down and have a machine shop check it out. It's not like a car where if you break down you can pull over and call a cab. If you use your boat in the ocean the peace of mind is worth considering.

I agree more with Don also. Nobody ever regretted doing the job properly the first time.

Re: i'm back 4.3LXGEN+

I don't normally like to get into this what will fit what type thing, but to save money, the answer would be NO. The 0D model heads are old style V6 without balance shaft and have the small valve cover (Like short 5.7) the 0K model you now have, has a balance shaft and the valve covers are plastic and a lot wider and the head is set up for roller lifters.
As I recall, you would also need to replace the intake manifold.
Now, if you want to change both heads, get different valve covers, and a different intake manifold and who knows what else will change, yes, it will bolt to the block.
But I sure wouldn't want to try it.
