Thanks Dozer

I also got the seal of approval from my helpers

Had to do some test fitting before I put it away. I think I'll wait to cut out the bow seating deck pieces until everything up front is fastened down.

a kicker bracket would probably cover the hole patch nicely. that is really weird location for filler. factory tank on an 18' I/O is cube looking thing on one side of doghouse, i think about 18 gal, similar to Moeller #39532. single permanent mount tank might be safer with a bunch of 4-6 yr olds in boat than four loose 6 gals ....and at the current (thank you CARB) prices of 6 gal portable tanks, might be cheaper.

your woodwork is lookin great!

Freebee alert

Stopped at my local trailer and truck bed place to ask about the fuel filler bezel, these came off some new trucks.

Plastic like the original, about an inch bigger all around, but it is a lot easier to make the hole bigger then the other way. Now to find me a +-20 gal tank I like.

Thanks FishN

Paint:
They Admiral has decided on Blue either Royal or Navy, and grey carpet for the deck. I will likely go with Wise seats Blue on Grey seats.
So,

eany

meany

miny

Any opinions? This will mostly be a water sports/cruising boat, so a lot of in and out and I worry about the dark blue gunnels getting hot in the sun.

Thanks, Jeff

You say the Admiral likes blue:

Who'd have thunk it:p

I prefer this 1:

Lots of in & out via a stern ladder? Gunwale ladder? The gunwale step pads might help to breakup the blue... And an upholstered bolster at the stern could be integral to a sunpad or seat back rests.... In Ohio the blue might still get pretty stinking hot, esp to the Admiral & crew.... Even the gray will, unless you pick an extremely pale gray.

the blue will be hot, that's why I went with white. for a sample go rest your arm on a blue or black car on a sunny day and then go rest your arm on a white one. the blue does look nice on the sides though.

down here the sun gets intense enough that even my pure-white Taco sheetmetal gets hot. but i can feel a substantial difference between it and the beige of the Starchief. go with the lightest color you can for the topside. they don't traditionally paint boats white just to look shiny.....lighter colors have the additional advantage that they show dents etc less, not that Starcraft hulls ever get dented.....

Re: I'm back, 78' SS resto

Thanks guys, yeah I used to have a black truck, that's what I'm worried about.

JB, hopefully a stern platform and ladder.

I do think the all blue looks the best, but I don't want to have to fill the hull with ice just to enjoy a day of boating.

I made a few more options.

And this one is hard to draw, but I was trying to match the shape of the swoosh on the side on top of the gunwale

Keep the opinions coming

Thanks, Jeff

Since you're an IO, & no splashwell, integrate a sunpad, step down over the doghouse, w/ upholstered bolster jump seat backs. Paint the transom & the gunwale from stern to about the helm, very light gray, and possibly add a few step pads along the top of the gunwale for stepping in & out of the boat at the dock. Minimizes bare feet on dark colors, and step pads also protect the painted gunwale from shoes.

If you want to mimic the swoosh from the helm forward & paint the bow blue, those areas won't see much bare footed traffic. But under a darker blue bow, you may want to up the insulation above the cuddy....

My $0.015;) (cent & a half)

The last one looks good with the swoosh, and the blue is in good spots not to burn the skin off your arm :) or feet. White does hide a multitude of sins.

Re: I'm back, 78' SS resto

Howdy all, I see webshots has deleted all my photos in this thread so I will have to see if I can add some back. I havn't touched the boat since last summer but have been watching C-list for some deals and checking out everyone's progress on here from time to time.

I picked this set back plate up today I am hoping to use with small splashwell possibly but havn't picked up a good outboard yet or got the 115 running.

I havn't stopped on her yet, Jeff

Keep at her, DF. I see you switched to Photobucket, good choice, seems to have less problems than some of the other pic hosting sites.

Yea, I started with Photobucket long ago when I still had dial-up, found I could upload to webshots a whole lot quicker and easier. Last fall webshots switched to "smile" and changed their website to more of a social media type setup. Luckily my photobucket account was still there and works good with the iPad my family got me for Christmas.

Well they are not in the right place, but I thought I should add some pics back on this thread. Started in 2011.
