Well I got my new (to me) 17 ft Stratos with a 150 Johnson. The one with the 15X17 prop (stratos recommended a 14 1/2 X 24). Even though the prop was slightly damaged I tried it and it ran lika a striped *** ape - especially the hole shot. I never went WOT because the tach is shot and I don't want to go over 35mph. I then tried the 14 1/2 X 23 prop that I bought and it ran fine also although not near the hole shot. I will get a tach so I'll know, but I want to ask: If I never plan to run at WOT and therefor never get to max rpm will the smaller (17 pitch) prop hurt anything. Thanks for any info you can offer.

Re: I'm back

Hard to answer because we don't know what rpms its running.Hate to give blind advise.I'm guessing that 17 ft rig with a 150 hp engine will end up with a 19" or 21" prop for optimal holeshot and wot rpm operation.I'd wait till I got a tach installed before contemplating final prop selection. In short ,no the 17" wouldn't hurt if you stayed under the recommended rpms.Trouble is ,we don't know what its turning at 35 mph.

You will save a little money in fuel using a larger prop.Other than that it should'nt hurt.... make sure you stay under rpm limmit though.

Jim

Re: I'm back

as i said before i run a 23 on the same boat and i run at 68 mph gps at 5400 rpm so if you don't want to go over 35 then run the 17 but get the tach fixxed i don't think that moter would like turning a 23 at 35 mph all the time your rpms would be around 2500
