I'm going to pull a joke on kids..

My adult kids 30 and 21 and grandson are joining us on the lake for a few days and nights next week. I going to make sure that we camp where there isn't any cell service so they cant tweet, text, facebook or call while we're out there. Then in the morning I'm going to tell them that the boat is dead. Can't wait.

Good idea, and only 40 bucks.

I had the 21 yo son ask tonight if we would have cell signal on the lake and replied oh yes, everywhere. 30 yo daughter is claustrophobic.....this will be interesting....Daughter is following us there "just in case". Hard to get to her vehicle from a cove.

These kids were raised good and taught value but it doesn't take much of today's world to erase all of that.

I'd love to be there to watch and listen....

You know, we go out every week to a little island where you cannot see or hear anything except the water slopping and birds.
Recently I enhanced the experience 10 fold by leaving my phone in the car.

No matter how much I tried to relax I still checked my phone for SMS, emails, iboats:facepalm: while 'relaxing' simply because I could.

Now it's so different.

I asked my wife last Monday if she wanted to take the camper to Summersville Lake for the weekend. Her reply was "will I have cell service?" The first evening we were setting in front of the camp fire. I looked over at her and she is playing with her cell phone.:facepalm: My 2 stepdaughters had brought the XBox and pretty much stayed in their room playing video games. All in all, I had a peaceful weekend. It was quiet. They were all wrapped up in their electronic gizmos and left me alone. LOL



If I did this right, here is a pic of the lake. They drain it every fall for white water rafting and flood control. It is down around 55 feet.

You should see the look on the newbee Boy Scout's and their parent's face when I take the scout's cell phones and put them in the big plastic bag before we leave on a campout. No electronics! The parents have my number and a backup number to call for emergencies.

The biggest complaint about the summer camp we run is the "no electronics" rule. Some of the parents complain more than the kids. Relax! A week without being tied to electronics is a good week!

Hope your kids can survive without the electronic gizmos.

Thats a beautifully lake Tom. I use to live there many years ago. It is also a very deep lake, when its in summer pool its around 400 feet deep at the dam, and it is often dropped 100 feet for winter pool, lol and that looks like the view at the marina. I spent many hours riding the lake and out dirt bikes the bottoms when its down , I hope you enjoyed it there. Just be real carfull with speed limits in the town sections it used to be a speed trap.

mz, Gateway Cove that I mentioned in the Lk Mead thread doesn't have any cell service, or at least I didn't have any before shutting off my cell phone. It's pretty close to the marina too, so they might get a false sense of security being so close, yet so far. All the passing boats we saw were far away, on the other side of the lake.

Hawker, you are right. That's a pic of the marina by Mountain Lakes Campground. I always run slow through Summersville. Big time speed trap on Rt. 19. LOL.

I try to keep my boat a phone free zone. If I see you're texting or surfing the web I'll put the sun at their back and washout the screen so they can't read it. If someone insists on talking I'll jump up on plane and do a 15 minute WOT run. They can do all of that stuff at the ramp while we're launching or retrieving so it keeps them out of my way.

I'm getting a strong feeling that a trip to WW is in your future....cards, boardgames,etc., etc., etc.
