Why have I got power when my batt switch is in the off position???<br /><br />Ok 1 batt. 4 position switch. <br />On back of switch I have 3 posts. labled 1, 2 and common.<br /><br />Picture this.<br />Negative from batt to common, pos. from batt. to 1<br />Then pos. from 1 to pos. buss at helm, neg. from common to neg. buss at helm.<br />when switch is in off position I still have power at helm. What am I doing wrong???<br />BTW everything else works fine <br /><br />cheers

Yikes, don't turn the switch to on or you will get a huge dangerous short, destroying the switch and maybe the battery.<br /><br />Hook Battery 1 Pos to 1<br />Hook Battery 2 Pos to 2<br />Hook Common to distribution bus positive<br />Hook both Battery negatives to distribution bus negative.<br /><br />"Common" does not mean negative, it means it's the common (positive) output of the switch.

Yeah you came very close to a major disaster - an unfused dead short if you turned the thing on, Can you spell "arc welder"?<br /><br />I remember an incident in my youth when I was working on a car engine and dropped an all-metal screwdriver (not a small one either) across the terminals of the battery. After much fireworks and giving thanks that I didn't have gas slopping around somewhere in the vicinity, the tool was no longer recognizable as a screwdriver - it had a big metal blob where the blade used to be.
