Re: i'm new on boat Johnson outboard 150HP

the only oil you need to change is in the lower unit, you will find 2 screws that look alike, one on bottom ,the other above it on the right side of the lowerunit,,you can buy lower unit oil at any boating store, you remove both screws and using the tube you but with oil squeeze into bottom hole til it flows out the top,put top screw back first then bottom, does yout trim and tilt make a noise thats sounds like it is running,if so try to help the motor up by hand while someone pushes the up button,if that dont work, there is a screw in a hole on the right engine mounting bracket, loosen it ,it will not come all the way out so dont try and take it all the way, this is a manual relese valve, when loose, you should be able to lift by hand, its hard to do from inside the boat, then look for the large screw on the round resivour that holds the fluid for the trim unit, you can use automatic trans fluid, fill til it flows out, trim up and down a few times and refill,if your engine has the vro system and is being used, you should have an oil tank on the boat somewhere,if no tank you have no oil injection so you need to mix you oil with your gas,1 pint of 50-1 oil to 6 gallons of gas

now i run in problem need to fill the trim oil

the boat was not used for long years i spend 3h to clean the gas tanks and gas line final the boat can start but found out from the other owner say the boat need to replace the water pump and uperrunit clog water can not flow  i don't know how to remover the clog problem and don't know how it clog

You need to buy a service manual to help you .I (we)will help all we can.But if the motor didnt run for a long time The carburators are probably dirty from old gas .Yes the impeller and maybe the whole water pump needs changing. You can take a small piece of wire and push into little hole water comes out, that may fix problem. But if water pump is bad, little or no water will come out.The manual has all the pictures and explaines what tools to use.

Re: i'm new on boat Johnson outboard 150HP

today i remove the lower unit 1st i check the water pump it look new to me
then i make sure no water clog in water cooler system
i used air to blow in a small plastic water hose where is the water come out from the engine i can see the air come out all the way to the bottom pine where is the water pump connect to.. this mean nothing clog the water system.
then i just put back the water pump and lower unit back and test
unlike 2 days ago this time the engine run cooler and i can see water come out from a small plastic water hose i think the cooling system oke

why i can not start the engine with out using e-z starting fluid?
the engine run i let it run for 7 mins
other problem i get is some water come out from the head @ 4 broken head bolts  i can only take 2 broken out the other 2 bolts can not see and it @ the bottom

thanks all for helping me

Re: i'm new on boat Johnson outboard 150HP

the motor has some compression issues most of those numbers are bad if you have beoken head bolts you may as well remove heads and inspec plate on side of the holes with lowest compression what you will find on several of these holes will be scorring probaly from overheat ring damage posiible warped head sound like you may want to inspect cyls with heads off before you spend any more time chaseing problems that will cost you money
motor probaly needs rebuild and its costly 2500 on my 150
good luck you could part out and put money towards another motor ?
good luck

The commercial versions of the V6 are designed with lower compression, they run slightly slower and use bigger props, mine (1994) are all around 90psi.
More low end torque and use cheaper fuel.

The broken head bolts are likely causing the low compression, so I'd assume it to be good until proven bad. Did you post the engine serial number yet?

Those head gaskets tell the story - both are blown. You're probably best off taking the block to a machine shop and getting those broken fasteners out. You might try drilling them out with a set of left-handed drill bits if at all possible.

Re: i'm new on boat Johnson outboard 150HP

MAchine shops deal with broken bolts easily and usually cheap, just don't put an EZ out near it.

There are no PSI numbers in my manual either and its a factory Johnson manual but I'm told they are typically around 90-100 psi.
