Re: I'm outta here

Hope to see you back. It's tough when forums grow as big as this one has. I've only got limited experience on a couple different engine models so I stay out of a lot of the threads unless I see an incomplete question with no responses - i'll politely ask for the details that the "experts" would need and move on - usually with a disclaimer that I'll be doing exactly that.

We all need a break once in a while. There's a fella on the non-repair discussion board who just makes my blood boil. Been there.

Re: I'm outta here

Having been a licensed auto-tech for more years than than enough I've decided that this has to be the worst trade ever for trying to help someone with free advice. Most people will ask you a question, you answer it to the best of your knowledge and then they will say "well I don't think so" . Then they will want to argue or debate the issue. If you don't think I know what I'm talking about then don't ask.I may not always be right, but if I'm not sure I'll be the first one to tell you.
Anyway having been on a few forums over the last couple of years I noticed they're all the same. The sh*t disturbers come and go.They get what they want and then leave,so don't sweat it and hang in there. If it wasn't for Guy's like yourself there would be very little point to these forums for most people.

P.S.Do you know Kirk that used to own Carleton Place Marine?

Nope but I've probably dealt with him in the past, I use John's a lot which is up the street, I know the lads in there pretty good, Laurentian is another in Ottawa that are awesome to deal with.

Re: I'm outta here

Say I know sometimes I ask for part # that is in a book I can buy, but a lot of times I don't have a lot of money to get the manual (yet) and I admit I feel bad to ask you guys that have spent the money to do just that. But I try to read all the new posts that are relative and , believe me i have read years of posts. I thank you all for being patient to me , and I have seen some real pinheads that have asked knowledgeable folk and then did what they wanted. I just got started in motors about a yr ago and now i am obsessed, and you and the fellows on here did that for me or to me. Sorry some one put you over the edge. I am in Canada too, nearly igloo time.

I only hope after learning a whack of stuff from you guys, that I maybe able to help some one. Maybe not anytime soon , I am still getting my hands greasy, I learned something today , the big dealer here wants too much for stuff, as it has the Evinrude name on the oil and pump to put it in the LU nicely

Re: I'm outta here

For what it's worth as a new boat owner you and several others here have really helped me out, as I just have had NO prior workings with boats, outboards, and the like. My only experiance was with ROWBOATS, and now I while I have not put my boat out on the water yet (waiting on some parts and decent weather) I am a lot more knowledgable and confident I can use this without learning "the hard way". I will continue to ask questions and appreciate ANY and ALL comments and advice, yours included. Hopefully I can pass on what I learn from you folks and my own experiances. I belong to several "forums", camper, auto, iboats, and a couple more and this site has been the best surprise of all. Never have I seen so many people willing to offer help and quickly too. I hope you stay on, and thanks from a newbie to boating!

Re: I'm outta here

Well, I guess I'll add my two cents.:D I haven't often asked for help here, but I have always tried to help others when I can. Years before I came here, I tinkered with outboards and learned how and what makes them tick, so I come here and help my friends whenever possible. I may not be quite as experienced and knowledgable as some here, but I have been working on them for 17 years and got to be pretty handy with a lot of the old OMC's as well as many variations of off brands. There are a lot of good guys here who are very helpful, such as F_R, tmcalavy, kenmyfam, just to name a few. coolguy is one that I find amazing. Here's a young man who knows how to keep us all interested.
So, hang in there, go crack a cold beer and have one for me:D Everyone's expert advice is always appreciated, as far as I'm concerned.

Re: I'm outta here

Glad to see ya stick around and ingore the BS...

I try really hard to offer sound advice, whether from experience or something I read here. I am not always right, but I learn like the rest... I try hard to ignore the idiots, but when (if) they attack you directly it is very hard... But you just ignore them and wonder if they are like that to everybody they meet. I try to be nice and unoffensive, but I cannot say that about everyone...

Talk to you later...

Re: I'm outta here

I find when some posts annoy me it means I'm probably spending too much time here.

When I don't have the time to read a lot of follow ups , things go better.

Re: I'm outta here

It seems that my approach to troubleshooting by asking questions of some of the poster(s) who's name(s) I will not share is annoying to such posters. Seeing as how I live in the great white north and the boats don't like ice what would be the point of sticking around the forums to offer FREE advice. Maybe this is a sign from god to take up a winter hobby such as building igloos. Maybe one day i'll come back to the forums when certain posters no longer require FREE HELP and ADVICE. God some people **** me off, edit this post or delete it, makes no difference to me. F_R, i'll be sending you cash tomorrow, sorry for the delay.

Peace to all and merry Christmas.

Thank you very much for your answers, time, and willingness to help in the past. If have a 9.5 Evinrude 1965(Frankenstein model 1965 powerhead and body, but 1969 lower unit), Evinrude 1972 9.5 Evinrude, and Evinrude 1984 15hp.

Your past post and willingness to help gave me the confidence to rebuilt(still a little in progress) the 1965 Evinrude 9.5hp. I bought it as a parts motor and found it to be in better condition than I thought.

God has blessed you with knowledge and skill:). You have been been very thoughtful to share your knowledge. Your asking questions to the poster is a more analytical way of diagnosing problems, rather than the usual replace parts until it works method. Unfortunately some people are inherently lazy and always want a quick fix rather than doing things the right way.

Thank you very much!!! Your time and willingness to help is very much appreciated!!!

David

I would like to sincerely thank all who share their knowledge on this site, whether to support the site or just out of kindness!! Grasshopper here has learned a lot from you guys, but also there is still a lot to learn.:)

Merry Christmas!!!!!
