I'm So freaking angry at the local boat dealer/parts dept.(yeah I could have saved a little money buying the part here at iboats but i wanted to do business with them and help them out as well and maybe set up wash my hands I'll wash yours) so much for that CRAP. I have been having some problems with my motor details here http://forums.iboats.com/bbBoard.cgi?a=viewthread;fid=28;gtid=1167093

Anyway we've determined that it was a bad new coil that I purchased from them... Today I called them and told the that the coil pack they sold me was bad and wanted to exchange it for another one.. They conveniently told me that the only way to prove it was bad I would have to bring my boat up there and let them check it on the boat for a minimum charge of $75.00 an hour.. I told the parts guy that they were going to charge me $75.00 for a $35 dollar part that I bought from him to see if it was bad or not. I then asked for the service department to talk with a tech and he said I couldn't do that due to liability reasons.. and he politely told me that was the only way to make it right was just to bring my boat up there but it would be later next week before I could know but would have to bring my boat now!!! I don't think that this is the right solution to the situation so I guess i'm just going to shuck out a little more cash for another coil, It's not the money that bothers me it's just the principal of it..
Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Looks like they don't stand by their parts and service. Bad way to do business. You would think they would want to satisfy the customers so they would return for more business.
Satisfied customers are the best form of advertisement.

If I am not mistaken, no parts dealer warranties electrical parts for other than obvious manufacturing flaws, as it is too easy to hook them up wrong in the first place and damage them.

Well not boat related but similar. A friend of a friend was trying to get his old 9N tractor going and I decided to help him out. He'd been throwing parts at it, on and off, for about 2 months trying to get it going. Among other mistakes, he had hooked his new ign. coil up backwards and ruined it. We took it back to NAPA, told him the other fellow had hooked it up backwards and we needed the exact replacement. The NAPA guy said the coil was still under warranty, he didn't care if he had hooked it up backwards, and gave us a new one even though we weren't the ones who even bought it originally! Viva NAPA!

The people at our local NAPA have been extremely helpfull when we go in there. We are often looking for odd sze U-bolts and Heim joints and they will do there best to find someone in town who carries them.

As my earlier post I have been having some problem with my motor and Saturday while tinkering around with it trying to troubleshoot my problem I lost all spark. I thought what now. I knew I wasn't going back the that dealer again not even if i broke down in front of them. I called a buddy of mine in out neighboring county and asked him who fixed his boat and he gave me the directions and I just hooked up the boat and away I went. I arrived at the boat shop(Looked like a boat grave yard). Got a nice welcome and the Owner (an old man that could spit out an fly eye at 30 yards with a chew of backer LOL) anyways I told him the problem I was having and he grabbed his spark tester and proceeded with helping me and Finally said mt powerpack was bad. Wen went into his parts house( A older mobile home crammed full of parts) and he looked for a new pack and couldn't find one and he dug around and found a used one he pulled off of another boat and he said lets try this. Just then another customer came up, I told the older gentleman that if i could borrow a socket wrench and a screwdriver I would swap out the pack and try that. As I just got the change over completed he came back to help me, After inspecting my job he said lets test the spark.( I was thinking to myself Please fire.) But to my disappointment it didn't the old man said humm I was afraid of that(SPIT). the phone rang and said go over to that boat(pointing to an motor on the back of what looked like a good start to a pile of crap) and take the pack off that motor while I get the phone. He arrive as I just removed the pack and got it and took it to my boat and said if this doesn't work I know were one is that does(thinking d:)) he hooked the pack up and said lets try it. I turned the starter and he said you got spark and put the spark tester on and tried it over a wide spark gap and he said your good to go, And told me if the pack goes again that the stator was going bad and needed to replace that.
We got things buttoned up and I asked him How much I owe him, His reply was your business I said HUH, He said just come back next time when you have troubles and we will call it even, I Told him I still owe you for your troubles , Is reply was next time your by you can buy me a beer. I happily thanked him and shook the old mans leather rough hands and away I went. I just went down the road and bought the old man a case of beer and took it back . as I pulled up, he said forget something, I said nope handed the man the case and gave him a  and a wave and away I went,
I don't know how happy he was, but a case of beer for a power pack seems I got the better end of that deal.
There is niothing better than old school! I'm afraid those days are slowly dying off
