OK now what did you have to give up?????
Bowling??
Pool??
1/2 of your beer??

Or worse yet--

Clean out the garage!!!!!!:D

Good news!!!Still have time to enjoy.

I had to give up my hobby of building custom cars. I recently sold the last one I built just so I could buy a boat. I do have to clean out the garage but its not bad at all since ive always had a car parked in there stuff didnt collect. Im just glad my garage doesnt look like some of the garages in the "post your garage thread" lol. I gotta clean it to fit the boat in there so I can work on it this winter and get it ready for next summer.

Going to pick the boat up tonight.

What kind of insurance does everyone have? Do you keep it insured while its in storage for the winter? Where can I pick up a service manual for the boat and the motor?

Lengthy insurance discussion here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=331030

There pretty much won't be a manual for the boat itself. Most manufactuers didn't produce one and if they did it was real generic safe boating practices and stuff like that. A factory service manual for your specific engine/drive will be invaluable. I'd post in the appropriate repair forum on here for your engine and those guys will know where to get a manual.

Statefarm, covered for $10,000 with a $200 deductable for $42.00 a month. Full coverage, Fire, sinks etc.. It covers everything. It's with the same company my truck is insured on, your insurance company might cover boats too.
Hope your happy with your new to you boat:) Congrats!!

Got the boat home last night! Only had one problem and that was the trailer lights. Had to goto walmart to get some stuff to fix it and did it in the parking lot before we hit the freeway back home. Moved a few things around in the garage and put the boat in there. It fits with room to spare! If I move some stuff around I can get the boat in there straight on and have a ton of room. Ill try to get pics in a couple days.

Still tryin to get those pics, kinda hard when you dont have a camera (wife decided to break it a couple weeks ago lol). I got the boat insured with state farm since they have our house and cars, 26 bucks a month for good coverage. Its gonna be nice here this weekend so we are gonna take it out to the lake to give it a test run. I just gotta go buy a few things to have on the boat to make me "legal" to be on the water, gonna go do that tonight I think. Ill try to get some pics soon fellas!

OK, so you paid a few $$$ extra for what looks like and sounds like a VERY well-kept boat. Good for you! Many always say "keep looking" if you don't get a GREAT price. However, for $500 or so "extra" you may have saved thousands in repairs AND the pain in the neck of fixing "little things" that are normal for used boats.

great decision to buy quality and value over "lowest price". Add to that the time wasted looking further....days, weeks, months .. while you're shopping, NOT boating!

Believe in the signs, it just wasn?t meant to be. I was looking at a boat this summer that I really wanted; the owner accidently left the battery on all night and drained it. I didn?t want to buy without at least seeing it run so I walked away. I found the best deal and my next boat the day after. Lucky me!

Make sure you run your blower motor before you start her up for a couple of minutes, you'll probably be gassin her up. And When your in idle and in No Wake Zones, Get in the habit of it being apart of your daily boating, 2nd nature. Anytime your running her slow. Check your bilge pump before you go too, Make sure its running properly. Just trying to help.
New to YOU boat.

Well went and looked at it and it is really clean and starts right up. No lake test but we hooked to a "fake lake" and ran it for a lil while. I gave him my offer and he refused, wouldnt even budge on the price. Said nothing below 6500 which I dont have so I left. I told him to save my number and email address and to get a hold of me if he changes his mind. Time to start lookin for other boats!

I did the same thing. The first center console I looked at the guy would not move $1 from asking price on a 20 yesr old boat. So I walked. A few weeks later found a different boat asking price was $2800. 1987 Winner 1850. Told him i'd think about it. Called back with a $2200 offer. He said he wanted $2500 minimum. I thanked him for his time and wished him luck in selling it. Next day had a message on my phone that he would take the $2200. "Wife wants it out of the yard". So this is what I brought home.

Re: Im still looking for my first boat, is this a good deal?

Boats like everything else are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for them. I get some many people that are like my flat screen tv is worth $800. Well it may be to someone but not me. Then on the flip side I get the opposite people trying to tell me that my $3,000 boat is worth $1,500 to them. The true value really just depends on the buyer and the market. I buy and sell for a living so I have very little attachment to most things that I have. With that said if I am buying something for personal enjoyment I have absolutely no problem at all spending the extra money to get what I really want. People will always say try to fid a steal which isn't always bad advice but as many of us know a steal can often bite you is the @ss in labor and heart ache. Sounds like you played it safe and will have a boat that you can truly enjoy. Good luck and make sure to get the pics posted.
