Thanks. Hey, my wife's parents live in Midland and my parents live in Clare. Maybe we'll haul her up your way this summer and we can look at each other's Starcrafts. I'd love to see yours.

Sanford is a nice place to do a little boating (when it's not too busy), just a stones throw from Midland and Clare:)

Re: I'm thinking about buying a 1976 Starcraft SS; advice needed

Since this is my first I/O I need some quick advice. We put the ear muffs on to run before I bought her and tonight it's going to go below freezing. I took out the plug on the side of the block and the plug on the manifold and drained all the water. I also took off the gooseneck at the thermostat just to be sure it would fully drain. I was wondering if there's anything else I need to do to the engine AND if the outdrive automatically drains or is there something I need to do to make sure there'e no water laying in there? I sure don't want anything to freeze. Thanks.

The steps you have taken plus putting the outdrive down, you should be all set.

Yeah, I've never had a tandem before and my Dodge Ram 1500 pulls it like it's not even there. I pulled it home about 50 miles in a 30 mph cross wind and it was really no trouble at all.

Wow..simply WOW..
Immaculant boat..in fact one of if not THE NICEST ready to roll Starcraft posted on here, regardless of model.
That motor looks clean enough to eat off of..and going back to my earlier post, here is the Original Mercruiser manual to help keep her that way. Do not waste your $$ on the Solec P.O.S. manuals they sell.

What a great looking origional SS, you will love that out on the water. When I'm running mine it reminds me of being in a big old early 60's Cadilac.

Welcome aboard, and congratulations on the new rig.:)

To say you have done well wouldn't come close to describing what a nice purchase you've made:D

I've never seen a 70s Starcraft in that nice of original condition. The seats look like they've not been sat in yet.

In fact, I'll meet you guys at Sanford so I can see this gem in real life.

We will bring redskin potato salad and some cold pops.:)

Thanks for all the cudos on getting the 76 Supersport. The weather forcast for here in central ohio tomorrow is sunny and 70. I'm feeling a "mental health day" from work coming on real fast. Can somebody tell me what octane fuel I should be running in this old merc? I'm guessing 89. Thanks.

I run standard 84 octane in my 1968 120hp mercruiser without issues..Run what ya want, you'll be too busy smiling to notice any performance difference with super juice in the tank over plain old juice.

Nice SS, Tom. Wait 'til you hit the water and start :D:D:D:D:Ding. Takes a while to stop. Have fun and welcome to the Starmada. Details on the secret handshake are kinda hazy but it involves potato salad.
