Well... the distributer doesn't make that noise in the vice at speed and it's not a spark noise (too loud). The only thing left is that the timing chain has some slop that's causing the cam and distributer to resonate at that rpm.(?) I'll check it asap. I'm running out of ideas but I haven't started swearing at it yet.
OBJ :D My brother has a 16' Campion with a 70 Rude on it. That little 70 horse gobbled up almost twice as much fuel as our 22.5 SeaRay (305 Merc.) with the same top speed (34 mph). :D You'd see this cowboy junk an outboard long before any inboard! Oh yeah, I forgot, outboards are disposable. :D
Just jerkin' yers' too. :)
Thanks for the ideas everyone.

Re: I'm venting!

Get this, the boat started to load up and misfire if it idled too long, it also had an intermittant miss at higher rpm. It sounded to me like the risers were on there way out so I pulled them today... YUCK! After a good engine flushing and manifold(s) flush I bolted some new risers on. Well, the boat runs way better now and guess what? The mystery noise is gone! Can anyone explain this? That can of Demon-be-gone worked well! :)

What a relief, I can go boating now. I can't enjoy myself on the water unless my boat runs perfect.

Re: I'm venting!

Sounds like way too much back pressure on the ole exhaust. Does yours have one of those backcheck flappers in the exhaust? If so that was probably the noise.

Glad things looking up for ya Magster..... :D

I got a few things off my punch list, but alot of the things yesterday wasn't on the list :(
You know it was one of them days - - Put a screw in, drink a beer, put a screw in, drink a beer. Then remove what you just put on because the beer didn't let you realize you forgot to put something else on first or something was on backwards. DUH DUH DUH!

Did get the vibration fixed in the outdrive, it was the U-joints after all. One of them had impressions of the needle bearings imbeded in the cross piece. It was wild because moving the joints around by hand, you could not feel any play or roughness. Replaced all the rubber boots and hoses.

If I ever take off all my bow/stern rails/fitting off again, think I will number them next time. I'm not that good with puzzles...... :D

Should be able to launch it sometime this week finally! :D .......SS....
